May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross) Plans for nanometer cavity BPM studies Energy Spectrometer evaluation (Hildreth) Integration with Optical Stabilization System Resolution studies Multi-bunch performance Local Oscillator locking and control

May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross) Summary We now have enough information to determine the ‘thermal noise’ limiting resolution for this system –Loss factor –Electronics performance –Beam issues Comparisons with initial nanoBPM project goals –Where are we? –What have we learned?

May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross)

May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross) Metrology Frame Status Carbon fiber frame complete; –Now in test at LLNL; should have 0 TCE ‘Feeler’ nanogrid holders complete (9 each) Nano grid tested; software integration this summer –Will limit range of strut motion (factor 2 reduction) –Test internal frame ready next week Prepare for shipping to KEK in August –Chung, Walston, McCormick to install 09.20 –(same trip as kicker & laserwire installation) Must be modified ‘in place’ to attach optical system Completely covers the BPM frame –Will have a new thermal ‘box’ 1 x 1 x 800 This is a very big job that may result in internal movement of the cavity BPM’s Closing motion control loop using SLAC inertial development software

May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross) Resolution Studies From this ATF visit we can: –Understand measured noise figure Raise intensity to 1.5e10 –Test LO locking –Test incoming beam energy correlation Maybe small effect (0.1 G-m ~ 300 n-rad total bend) –Begin comparison with ATF cavity BPM’s (one working!) –Test bunch length issues (XCS) Next visit:

May 31, 2005Third Mini-Workshop on Nano Project at ATF (M. Ross) Cavity BPM studies 12.05 Electronics studies Combined ATF/BINP connection Dipole control for precise angle measurements
