John 19:28

John 19: 28 - 30 28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Physical Thirst Been up all night Hot and dusty climate Beaten and whipped Walked through streets 6 hours on the cross

We need water 70% of our body is water For chemical reactions in cells For blood to carry nutrients around At least 2 litres a day Can only survive for 3 days without water

Around the world…. 768 million people in the world don't have access to safe water i.e. roughly one in ten of the world's population 2.5 billion people don't have access to adequate sanitation, one in three of the world's population In Africa, women often have to walk 10km a day carrying 20 litres of water

John 19:28

Spiritual Thirst John 4: 7 – 14 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. [a] )a 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” 11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 7: 37 – 38 37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

What are we drinking?

Where are we getting our energy from?

How do we get a buzz?

How do we relax and have fun?

Jeremiah 2: 13 My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
