24 Illness… Most individuals report ‘fever/malaria’ Two thirds of individuals who are ill consult a health provider Of those, 55 % use a government facility

31 CONCLUSIONS Demographic & household characteristics: Increase in female-headed households Increase in access to electricity in urban areas (only) Improvements in housing materials in all areas Increase in access to some social facilities, but decline in others (courts, coops)

32 HBS 2000/01: March 2002 CONCLUSIONS Education: Large number of rural adults with no education – esp women This has not improved over the 1990s Access to primary school has declined esp in rural areas Late entry to school esp in rural areas Girls enrolment now higher than boys

33 HBS 2000/01: March 2002 CONCLUSIONS Health: Slightly over half of individuals who were sick and consulted anyone used a government facility Access to primary health facilities has remained unchanged Water & sanitation: No change in access to toilets Improvements in quality and access to drinking water in rural areas... But still over half of rural hhs depend on an unprotected source
