1. Get sheet from back 2. Get out Valentine’s Day poetry assignments out. 3. Write hw. 4. Do Do Now 4. Do Now and HW  Do Now: Complete the Confusing Word assignment ON YOUR OWN.  HW: Write 1 paragraph about song that shows a trait of Romanticism  Study for Romanticism test (Know the author/titles of all poems as well as the 5 “I’s” of romanticism. Also know both names of the time period it rebelled against  Read independent novel (Due March 3 rd ).

Introduction  Jot down what you think our biggest question about God is other than “Does He exist?”

Class Overview  The What: Today we are going to follow William Blake’s exploration of this hard question through two different poems.  The Why: We all sometimes think about the hard questions in life. Through the Romantic poets, we can maybe put words to some of our questions and realize that we’re not alone in our search for answers.

Intro to New Material: Blake Notes (#5)  Notebooks will be graded for:  1. Fallacy notes  2. Romanticism notes  3. Terms (not B day)  4. Ozymandias  5. Blake  6. Notes on COU 201 (in 3 rd section)  Points will be taken off if they are not in the right section or if they are incomplete

Check for Understanding  Was Blake popular during his lifetime?  Was he religious?  What was Blake’s other talent (besides writing poetry)? (response: drawing/engraving)  What was Blake’s attitude toward authority?  What big spiritual questions did he struggle with?

Guided Practice  You have 10 minutes to TPCASTT “The Lamb”  Share out  You have 10 minutes to TPFASTT “The Tyger”  Share out  Answer the 6 questions together

Guided Practice continued (class discussion)  What is the question asked by the speaker of both poems?  Who is the maker of both The Lamb and They tiger?  So what is the poet actually asking in these two poems?  What characteristic of Romanticism is present?  Since we know that “The Lamb” is from “Songs of Innocence” and “The Tyger” is from “Songs of Experience”, what can we infer about the author’s life experience between writing “The Lamb” and writing ‘The Tyger”?

Independent Practice  What do both of these poems say about Blake’s view of God and good/evil? Use text evidence to support your answer.
