2 Multicultural Teaching As teachers, how do we eliminate stereotype threat? What is multiculturalism? What is Sonia Nieto’s definition? What is the difference between deep and shallow multiculturalism?

3 How do we eliminate stereotype threat and help all students succeed? Become cultural competent (expose yourself to different cultures, become aware of your own assumptions and prejudices). Create a “safe zone.” Get to know your students as people. Build trust.

4 What did you think of the articles by McIntosh and Olson? How does all this relate to history and to yourselves as future teachers?
