Introduction to Group Work
2
Learning Objectives The goal of the group project is to provide workshop participants with an opportunity to further develop and strengthen Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) skills Groups will apply knowledge of good monitoring and evaluation practices gained during the workshop sessions to a real life M&E plan Rather than trying to develop an entire M&E Plan, which may mean covering all components in a cursory fashion, groups will develop, in detail, selected components of a plan 2
3
Group Project Each group will create an M&E plan based on a specific program area (IRS, ITN/LLIN, IPTp, etc) Groups will provide three presentations 2 progress reports 1 final presentation On the final day of the workshop, each group will present their plan using PowerPoint to the rest of the participants Following each presentation, groups will receive feedback from the other participants and organizers
4
Expected Outputs Final M&E plan (electronic copy) Power Point group presentation 4
5
Group Formation Select one of the interventions below: –Case management –ITNs –IRS –IPT –Larviciding –---Other?? Establish groups of 5-6 people 5
6
Group Presentation Overview (1) 1.An introduction 2.A problem statement: define the public health problem at issue 3.Conceptual framework 4.Goals and objectives of the program 5.Key interventions and activities 6.Results Framework or Logic Model 6
7
Group Presentation Overview (2) 7.An indicator matrix 8.Indicator Reference Sheets 9.Data sources and systems 10.Dissemination strategies and plans for use of the data 11.Analysis of the constraints of the plan, the main problems expected, and how these problems will be addressed 12.Ideas for how an impact evaluation might be conducted 7
8
Outline of Group Presentation Program Name An M&E Plan Developed as a Group Assignment for Training, Date List members of the group here NO NEED TO PRESENT EVERYTHING 8
9
Problem Statement (slide 1&2) State the specific public health problem that your program addresses. 9
10
Conceptual Framework (Slide 3) Provide a conceptual framework for the problem that your program addresses. This may be done on the power point or passed out as a handout. 10
11
Goal and Objectives (slide 4) Goal: Objectives: 11
12
Goal and Objectives (slide 5) Goal: Objectives: 12
13
Key interventions (Slide 6) Briefly list some of the interventions that your program will implement 13
14
Results framework (slide 7) Provide a results framework for the program that links together the goal, objectives, and interventions. This may be done on the power point or passed out as a handout. 14
15
Logic model or Logical Framework (slide 7) Provide a logic model or logical framework for the program that links together the goal, objectives, interventions, outcomes, outputs, key activities and inputs This may be done on the power point or passed out as a handout. 15
16
Indicators (slide 8) List 3-5 indicators that will be used throughout the remainder of the presentation IndicatorType (Input/output/ Outcome, etc) NumeratorDenominator 16
17
Indicators: Reference Sheets (slide 9) Distribute indicator reference sheets for each of the selected indicators 17
18
Data Sources (slide 10) Summarize the information systems/data sources that will be used for the 3-5 indicators IndicatorInformation system/Data sources Validity/Reliability in your country context 18
19
Dissemination strategies and plans for use of the data (slide 11) –Audience: –Decision to be made: –Information needs: –Dissemination method: –Information used for: 19
20
Constraints to an effective M&E System (slide 12) List the possible constraints to implementing your M&E plan and how these constraints will be addressed 20
21
Ideas for how an impact evaluation might be conducted (slide 13) Outcome/Impact under investigation: Method of investigation/evaluation design: 21
22
Presentation Format Power Point with other materials as needed Time allocated for final presentation: –25 minute presentation –10-15 minute Q&A All members of the group should participate in the presentation 22
23
Progress reports 2 presentations to get feedback from peers on group projects before final presentation 15 minutes for each group Cover a small portion of group work
