Maciej Kluza Iwona Maciejowska Interactive exhibition prepared by students as a tool of informal education in a museum 1 Jagiellonian University Museum 2 Department of Chemical Education, Jagiellonian University

Informal education Informal education is a general term for education outside of a standard school setting. It is a lifelong process of forming of attitudes, values, skills and knowledge based on various experiences and educational impact of the environment (family, friends, working environment, playgrounds, markets) and the impact of mass media.

Informal education It usually takes place outside educational establishments; It does not follow a specified curriculum and is not often professionally organized but rather originates accidentally, sporadically, in association with certain occasions, from changing practical requirements; It is not necessarily planned pedagogically, systematically according to fixed subjects, test and qualification-oriented; It is experienced directly in its "natural" function of everyday life; It is often spontaneous and creative.

Educational activities in Museums ● Museum lessons and workshops ● Science Fairs ● Interactive exhibitions

Interactive exhibitions Senses, 2005-2012Ancient and Modern Sciences, 2000-2005 Professors’ Garden, since 2009 All… is a number, since 2012

IRRESISTIBLE Project Engaging the Young with Responsible Research and Innovation

Project goal To design activities that foster the involvement of students and the public in the process of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). To raise the awareness on RRI the project aims to increase students content knowledge about research by bringing cutting edge research into the program, and to foster the discussion among students about RRI issues by the introduction of relevant topics. By using formal (school) and informal (science center, museum or festival) teaching we familiarize schoolchildren with science.

RRI: six key issues Engagement: joint participation of researchers, industry and civil society in the research and innovation process Gender equality: unlocking the full potential of society Science education: creative education to foster the future needs of society Ethics: including societal relevance and acceptability of research and innovation outcomes Open access: free, online access to the results of publicly funded research Governance: the responsibility of policy makers to develop harmonious models for RRI

TOPICS Carbohydrates in breast milk (Netherlands) Geoengineering; Polar Science (Portugal) Plastic – Bane of the oceans; Offshore wind Energy(Germany) Adaptation to climate change (Finland) The RRI of Perovskite-based photovoltaic cells (Israel) Solar energy and specific nanomaterials (Romania) Nano in health sciences (Turkey) Nanoscience applications (Greece) Nanotechnology for solar energy; Nanoscience for solar energy (Italy) The catalytic properties of nanomaterials (Poland)

Module course Visit on the interactive exhibition Workshop on exhibit building Laboratory lessons Visit in the research lab

Building of exhibits

Students’ curated exhibitions ● At the end of the work every group prepared an exhibition ● Students participating in the project designed and made exhibits. ● In 2015 six exhibitions were opened.

Museum to me - posters

Museum to me - objects

Museum with me – hands on exhibits

Museum with me – experiments

Museum with me – ICT

Me & Me &Me in Museum

In 2016 ● The best exhibits from students exhibitions will be shown in June in the Jagiellonian University Museum. ● The best exhibits from all countries will be shown on final exhibition in Istanbul Science Center http://www.irresistible-project.eu iwona.maciejowska@uj.edu.pl maciej.kluza@uj.edu.pl
