2 Answer: To produce individuals who follow a path of virtue & wisdom. Question # 1: What was the purpose of a liberal arts education?

3 Answer: Renaissance Italy was an urban society. It was an age of recovery (plague, political instability (feudalism), & decline in Church. A new focus on human beings and individual ability and worth. (humanism) Question # 2: What were the 3 primary characteristics of the Renaissance?

4 Answer: Florence, Italy (Controlled by the Medici Family who had a passion for art & sponsored many artists) Question # 3: Which Italian city-state was the artistic center of the Renaissance?

5 Answer: Northern artists did not use fresco. They painted illustrations for books and wooden panel for altar pieces. Question # 4: How did the style of Northern Renaissance artists differ from the style of Italian Renaissance artists?

16 Answer: “This is not my trade.” He told the Pope that he was a sculptor, not a painter. Question # 15: When asked to paint the Sistine Chapel, why did Michelangelo recommend other painters to the Pope?
