4 Ancient South American Art  Chavín, earliest highly developed culture in pre- Columbian Peru, which flourished between about 900 and 200 BCE.  Development of such crafts as weaving, pottery making, and stone carving.  First time many the cultures of the area were unified by a common ideology or religion.

18 Contemporary South American Artists  Olga de Amaral lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia. Amaral is a renowned textile artist whose evolving technique transforms two-dimensional textiles into three- dimensional objects.  Milton Becerra is a Venezuelan artist born in 1951. He studied photography but currently specializes in installation art.  Jose Bedia is a native of Havana Cuba, and has work in many important museums worldwide. Bedia has created a unique synthesis of the artistic traditions of Africa and the indigenous Americas.
