2. THE FLAG Czech flag is made by 3 colours: red colour means blood which was given for freedom, blue colour means the sky without coulds and white colour means purity.

3. INHABITANTS The Czech Republic has 10 million inhabitants. Prague is the capital city of the Czech republic and it has 1.2 million inhabitants. Blatná has about 7000 inhabitants.

4. HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY Czechoslovakia was founded in 1918, in 1993 Czechoslovakia was splited in two countries – the Czech and Slovak republic. On 1st January 1993 was founded the Czech Republic. Our first president was Václav Havel.

5. KAREL IV. Karel IV. was our most important monarch. Elizabeth P ř emyslovna and Jan Lucemburský were his parents. He had 4 wifes. He founded Charles bridge,Charles University - the first university in central Europe, St Vitus Cathedral.

7. VÁCLAV HAVEL Václav Havel was president of the Czech Republic (1993-2003). He was dissident, playwright and politician. He was very famous and very popular person in the world.As a playwright he wrote for example the following dramas of the absurd: Garden party, Notification, Audience, Vernisage, Protest. He was nominated for Nobel prize several times.

10. PETRA KVITOVÁ Petra is one of the best tennis players. At the age of 22 she is the second tennis player in the world and has the title Best athlete of the Czech Republic. She won Wimbledon in 2011.

11. OTTO WICHTERLE Otto Wichterle was well- known Czech inventor and scientist. He became famous because he helped to invent the gel for contact lenses. Wichterle also invented nylon so we can wear nylons tights.

12. MILOŠ FORMAN Miloš Forman is a film director, screenwriter and an actor. He is Czech nationality, but he lives in the USA for now. He has been awarded 2 Oscar prizes for the best direction and 3 Golden Globes. Forman's best films are Ho ř í, má panenko ( Firemen´s Ball), P ř elet nad kuka čč ím hnízdem( Flight over the Cuckoo´s Nest) and Hair.

14. MARKÉTA IRGLOVÁ Markéta is a singer and composer. In 2007 Markéta together with Glen Hansard wrote famous song Falling slowly, which is the main melody in the movie Once. This song won Oscar prize in 2008. Markéta also was awarded the prize of Academy of popular music. She lives in New York with his friend.

16. KAREL ČAPEK Karel Č apek was a famous writer, journalist, translator and playwright in period between WWI and WWII. He wrote for example: War with salamanders, Case Makcropulos, White illness, R.U.R.. He also became popular because together with his brother Josef they invented the word Robot, which is famous all over the world.

18. HOCKEY Czech ice hockey team was founded after the disintegration of Czechoslovakia. We have played World cup since 1920, where we have played three times for Czechoslovakia. Since 1993-2011 we have been six times the first, ones the second and four times the third. World championship 2012 was in Finland and Sweden and sixteen teams took part this year. We were at the third place.

20. CZECH CUISINE Czech people are big eaters. They love Czech cuisine and they are proud of it. Tradicional dishes are for example potato dumplings, roast pork and sauerkraut, beef sirloin in a cream sauce served with dumplings and cream with cranberries. Among the sweet dishes we can include sweet potato dumplings “Škubánky” with poppy seed dust on top.
