2 Welcome to the 2016 PCC Kickoff Event! A little bit about us, first…

3 The Policy Case Competition WHO WE ARE: The Policy Case Competition is hosted annually by the Politics Society at NYU. We’re a committee of undergraduate students looking to broaden people’s perspectives on current political issues and bring meaningful contribution to ongoing discussions. OUR MISSION: We want students to have an opportunity to get hands-on experience in policymaking. Start to finish, preliminary research to final presentation.

5 Registration Registration link: https://goo.gl/gjRtci Registration deadline: March 8 th, 2016 The registration link will be available on our website at nyupcc.org. Individuals and groups who register with less than 4 members will be placed in teams based on topic preferences.

6 The Policy Case Competition Last year, we had…  12 topics in 4 categories  Over 200 competitors and 50 teams  Participation from 5 different universities  Judges from the Roosevelt Institute, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, the National Review, and more  2 professor-led workshops

7 The Policy Case Competition This year…  21 topics to choose from in 5 categories  3 professor-led workshops  Judges from Wired Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, Columbia University, and more  More than 60 other universities in the northeast invited to compete  $500 cash prize and a free trip to Washington, D.C. for winning team

8 Policy Case Competition 2016 Three rounds of competition: 1. Policy Memo (written) – April 1 st 2. Category Presentations – April 24 th 3. Final Round Presentations – May 1st

9 Policy Case Competition 2016 Three workshops ( mandatory for all competitors): 1. Writing the Policy Memo  March 22 nd in Kimmel 804/805, professor TBD 2. Presentations 101: Knowing Your Audience  April 11 th in KMEC 5-50 with Professor Stehlik 3. Advanced Presentations  April 25 th with Professor Foudy, location TBD

12 Presentation Rules  Dress code is business formal for both rounds of presentations.  Competitors are required to stay the entire duration of the conference.  Second Round (Category Presentations):  5 minutes of uninterrupted presentation time, 15 minutes total  One team from each category moves onto final round presentations  Third Round (Final Presentations):  5 minutes of uninterrupted presentation time, 20 minutes total
