Make an information leaflet about what the sensors do in a Smart Phone for people over 65 years of age. You can use PowerPoint, Word or Publisher

GPS Receiver A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position.

Barometer A barometer is a scientific instrument used in meteorology to measure atmospheric pressure. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather.

Microphone Microphones are a type of transducer - a device which converts energy from one form to another.

Gyroscope A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation, based on the principle of preserving angular momentum.

Accelerometer Accelerometers are devices that can measure acceleration (the rate of change in velocity), but in smartphones, they're able to detect changes in orientation and tell the screen to rotate. Basically, it helps the phone know up from down.

Barometer A barometer is a scientific instrument used in meteorology to measure atmospheric pressure. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather. Numerous measurements of air pressure are used within surface weather analysis to help find surface troughs, high pressure systems and frontal boundaries.

Magnetometer Magnetometers are measurement instruments used for two general purposes: to measure the magnetization of a magnetic material like a ferrimagnet, or to measure the strength and, in some cases, the direction of the magnetic field at a point in space.

Proximity sensor A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. A proximity sensor often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation (infrared, for instance), and looks for changes in the field or return signal

Wifi A facility allowing computers, smartphones, or other devices to connect to the Internet or communicate with one another wirelessly within a particular area.

Blue Tooth A standard for the short-range wireless interconnection of mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices.

Camera A device for recording visual images in the form of photographs, film, or video signals.

Rate Monitor A device that monitors how fast your heart rate is.

Ambient Light The intensity or amount of ambient light surrounding your workspace affects the way you perceive colours on your display.
