TNT History The TNT Challenge 10

Historical Gross/Net Revenue FY98-FY13 Million $ Fiscal Year 11 Nationally South Carolina Stop the decline! Goal: stabilize TNT revenue.

It’s time to try new things! 12 #1: Cut Expense Ratio to 85/15% by FY15 #2: Embrace Flex TNT #3: Move Summer season to Spring #4: New Coaching Programs #5: Enlist help recruiting from coaches and mentors

What does this mean for TNT? More than ever… it’s all about the mission. Not a flight or a gym membership or an international destination. It’s about raising money to cure cancer. It’s about Laura. It’s about Ian. It’s about Caroline.

The Good News! Fiscal Year 14 80%! 72%! Every 1% change in this ratio can mean over $6,000 more for our mission! Every 1% increase in retention can mean over $6,700 more for our mission! 65% is national average

#1: Cut expense ratio to 85/15% by FY15 15 Don’t pay coaches who don’t WANT to be paid Flight reimbursement, not booking Higher fundraising goals to receive flight Have Victory parties back home Change incentives Cutting out non-revenue-generating ‘soft credits’ More fundraising options, including ‘no travel’ goals Tri team: cap of $25 a month reimbursement for gym May purchase wetsuit or tri shorts at discount (top is free) Online Coach Certification means more can attend! Lower expenses make TNT more available to more people via low fundraising commitments and more ‘a la carte’ options.

#2: Embrace Team Flex 16 Local Flex Events on SC schedule For out of town participants For those who travel For those who prefer to train alone Uses training peaks South Carolina coach & Staff National Flex For those who want to do an event or sport SC doesn’t offer They are invited to come to your trainings. Online coach and staff SC does receive their revenue A few examples of National Flex events: Dublin Marathon, Honolulu Marathon, Sea Gull Century, Hike events, All Disney events, Chicago Marathon, Mardi Gras Marathon, New York City Marathon, & Mayors Marathon. Alternative options: National Team Share coach/staff if less than 8 people headed to a national event Flex to Local If we have 10 or more for 1 Flex event, may add team locally.

#3:Spring is the new Summer! Spring time frame: October-March/April/May 17 Why switch? *Able to recruit for Nike Women’s Half Marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh, St Anthony’s Triathlon, & even Myrtle Beach half. *Summer events were stale, with few local, inexpensive options. *Spring will allow much more time for fundraising & training *San Diego, Alaska, & Tahoe are still options with National Flex

#4: New Coaching Options 18 *Run/Walk Programs * Less intimidating option for beginners. *Moms in Training *5K or 10K, stroller (and tween/teen?) friendly training *Flex Coaching *Need ‘connected’ SC Flex coaches to coach via Training Peaks *Corporate or Friends/Family Teams *Teams of 10 or more may be able to choose their own event/training times *Make Cures Happen *Opt for “Training Only” and coordinate your own travel/event weekend

#5: Coach Payments New: Option of being paid or volunteer coach PAID $75 per completer per sport Might not travel to non-local events Always invited to Myrtle, Savannah, or Raleigh VOLUNTEER Can donate partial amount of fee Will get first priority of travelling Always invited to Myrtle, Savannah, or Raleigh

#6: Coaches and mentors help recruit NEW: Incentives Coaches: $100 to Fleet Feet if you retain 80% of your team minimum team size of 10 Mentors: $50 to Fleet Feet if you retain 80% of your team minimum team size of 5 Send emails to leads about training Coaches to email past teams Recognize fundraising success in training Host Alumni Reunion Runs Spread the word among your networks Help our social networks grow Find us grassroots marketing events Retention Rockstars FY13: Charleston Summer Run: : 9/11 Flex Winter Run: Jan Cox: 19/20 Honorable Mention Columbia Summer Run: Keith Ellis 4/5 Columbia Summer Run/Walk: Karen Pettus 3/3

What would you do to improve TNT trainings? Most common answer: Training Location & Time Feedback “Offer some in my city”“Add locations” “The early time” “Locate some near me” “Different locations closer to me” “They are a hour drive from my house” “More days and times” “It would have been nice to have trainings on my side of town as well (which one coach did coordinate on a few occasions). I am also not a morning person so I felt it was difficult to get up and drive a far distance then having to train as well.” Potential Solutions *Have multiple arrival options for different distances: (i.e. marathoners come at 6:00AM, half at 7:00 AM) *Have travelling trainings occasionally *Survey group to see their preferences *Move training location based on current team zip code *Market more heavily to locations convenient to trainings

consider having a babysitter willing to watch children in a central location near the training site. Interested members could pay this individual. This was my main limitation. * Have groups and some focus on faster runners Try to ensure more runners of all abilities were part of each training group. The majority of the time I ran alone. Perhaps fewer events would encourage bigger groups and more fun among participants. *It is great to meet friends and provide a support system. *Nothing, it's fabulous as is! *I loved the training guidance, and social events. I did love the coaches, and they were helpful despite the distance for me *The trainings were great and I did feel that they made me accountable. *Receive training emails at the same time very week so I could depend on knowing when I would get it. *Training schedule is soo long! Think it could be shorter with fewer running days required. *I don't think it was a problem with the program, just next time I sign up for a TNT event, I will do it with a buddy to help me stay engaged. *I would try to participate in some of the trainings for the social aspect
