2 I was recently at the zoo and had a conversation with one of the zoo keepers who works with orangutans. She shared with me that they give the orangutans magazines and they tend to rip out pictures of other animals and monkeys and with the boring magazines with no pictures they pee on them. 4 Close to Humans At zoos I have many times seen the monkeys wearing socks or shirts, drinking out of water bottles and reading the newspaper. Orangutans and other monkeys are very much like humans. They have the same senses and they have opposable thumbs. Families have been known to raise monkeys and teach them to ride bikes and to human activities. 6 Orangutans as Pets? Orangutans may sound like the perfect pet but they are far from that. As babies they would be perfectly fine but once they start to get older they start to get aggressive. They are not trying to be mean but it is their natural instinct. So sadly we will have to stick to seeing them in zoos and if your lucky the wild Orangutans may sound like the perfect pet but they are far from that.
