2. 2 The State Board of Education: a)Shall establish the number of annual scholarships based upon the money available; b)Shall review all applications submitted and award grants of money to approved universities, colleges, or other providers of ARL programs to the extent that money is available in an amount determined by the SBE; and c)May adopt any regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of the scholarship. The State Board may prioritize the award of grants to programs which provide scholarships to a greater number of recipients who: Are veterans or the spouses of veterans; Intend to teach in public schools in this State which have the highest shortage of teachers; Have been economically disadvantaged or belong to a racial or ethnic minority group; or Will be eligible to teach in a subject area for which there is a shortage of teachers. Such a subject area may include, without limitation, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, special education or English as a second language.

3. 3 University, college or other provider of an alternative licensure program that offers an eligible teaching program to apply to the State Board to receive a grant to fund scholarships if completing the program makes a student eligible to obtain a license to teach kindergarten through grade 12, special education, or early childhood. http://www.doe.nv.gov/Educator_Development_and_Support/Educator_Preparation/ Students may include, without limitation: a)Recent high school graduates who enroll in an eligible program b)Students who are enrolled at a university or college who change their academic program or major to an eligible program c)Students who have completed some credits at a university or college and who enroll in a an eligible program d)Students who possess a bachelor’s degree in a field other than education who pursue an alternative route to licensure as a teacher e)Veterans and the spouses of veterans f)Students who have had some experience working in a classroom, including, without limitation, as a paraprofessional or substitute teacher

4. 4 Programs may award a Scholarship to a recipient in an amount not to exceed $3,000/semester or $24,000 in the aggregate Programs who receive grant funds shall: a)Disburse 75% of scholarship amount for the semester to approved recipients at the beginning of each semester b)Place the remaining 25% of the amount in a trust account for distribution to recipient after teaching in Nevada for 5 consecutive school years immediately following completion of the program and/or any other requirements established by the State Board

7. 7 Option #1 134 Award 134 scholarships. Six alternative route program providers, with all scholarship recipients being eligible for initial licensure and hire in Fall 2016 in schools with teacher shortages. Additionally, a scholarship recipient is only eligible for the money deposited in the trust account if she/he serves 3 of the 5 years in a school or schools identified as having a teacher shortage. Option #2 141 Award 141 scholarships. Six alternative route program providers, with 118 scholarship recipients being eligible for initial licensure and hire in Fall 2016 in schools with teacher shortages and 2 eligible for hire in Lincoln County SD. Three traditional program providers, with 21 scholarship recipients being eligible for initial licensure and hire in Fall 2017.
