3 1. ASSESS THE NETWORK AND PPU’S BUSBAR ARRANGEMENT Advantages Less costly than other network. Much simpler in planning, design and operation. Performance of this network is good.

4 Disadvantages Radial feeder system is less reliable than other systems because there is only one path between the substation and consumer.

5 2. ROLE OF LOCAL TRANSFORMER Step down the voltage to give the supply to load in local substation The uses of the supply are for the protection and telecontrol. Another uses of local transformer as to give the earthing and neutral for the supply.

6 3. GIVE YOUR OPINION THE LEVEL OF SECURITY THAT SHOULD BE SUPPLY TO THE CONSUMER IN P/E 1- P/E12. In the level security of TNB, all the area included from P/E 1 to P/E 12 is level 2. If the supply interruption happens on these P/E, the restoration time must be less than 15 minutes.

14 Transformer operation loading is based on TNB transformer installation guideline. Distribution transformer is rarely loaded continuously and its rated as kVA As its goes through a daily load cycle, its possible to load the transformer beyond its rating withourt serious effect on its life expectacy due to transformer has long thermal time constant.

15 5. RECOMEND THE TRANSFORMER RATING FOR TX 1 AND TX 2 OF PPU TERANG HATI. Total load connected at Feeder 1 = 600 kVA + (1000 kVA x 8 P/E ) + (1000 kVA x 3 P/E) = 11 600 kVA per feeder Total feeder connected to load in the system is 11 feeder Total load connected at PPU = 11 x 11 600kVA =127 600 kVA As the transformer used in the MV system is in the parallel, the load distribution for each of the trasformer is used. 127 600 kVA / 2 = 63 800 kVA per transformer

18 6. RECOMEND THE TYPE OF SUITABLE SWITCHGEAR TO BE USED AT THE PPU AND EACH OF P/E 1 – P/E 12 In TNB the 11kV system ussually used Ring Main Unit (RMU). RMU is one of the switchgear that use the combination of the load break switch and switch fuse or circuit breaker. Ussually RMU used Sulfur Hexafluoride gas for the insulation. In addition RMU is more cheaper that Vaccum circuit breaker, more economical, ease of maintainance, space saving and suitable for indoor or outdoor. Thus it is recomended for P/E 1- P/E12 to used RMU for switchgear.

20 At the PPU the suggested swithgear used is the Vacumm Circuit Breaker (VCB). VCB offer low energy mechanism used to operate the contact separation. Since VCB used vacumm as the insulating material, its does not contain ionizable material, thus on the separation of the contact metal the melted and vapourized material will be cancel due to its external energy is in the vicinity of natural zero. VCB also simple and compact thus its does not interupting the insulation material. At the same time VCB is more durable compare to Oil Circuit breaker thus its suitable for repeated operation

24 IS IT SUITABLE TO CONNECT DG PLANT AT PPU TERANG HATI? DG refers to small-scale electric power generators that produce electricity at a site close to customers or that are tied to an electric distribution system. Normally, this DG is to be installed at distribution side.
