Lab Journal 1: Project Write-up Finish/Conclude/Review Project Requirements Using iPads Independent Work: Lab Journal 1 – Playground Physics

Interpreting Data Based on the data does changing string length affect number of swings per minute? Why? Why not? Length of String (cm) 123Ave 15.0 cm78807577.7 25.5 cm50 Variable: Length of String Constant: Mass of swing (50.0 g)

Interpreting Data Based on the data does changing mass affect number of swings per minute? Why? Why not? Mass (g)123Ave 50.0 g65676465.3 100.0 g66676867 Variable: Mass of Bolt String Length: 20.0 cm

Which swing will have more swings per minute?

Summary – How can you tell if your variable caused a change? – Which variable, mass of swing or length of string, affects the number of swings per minute? – How should someone design a swing to move back and forth many times per minute?

Lab Journal 1 The remainder of this presentation will show you what you should include in your lab journal. Use your paper copy as a rough draft to help you complete the work. The following slide has specific information for how to create a GoogleDoc to complete the assignment. I will guide you through this in class. There are other ways to create a Google Doc (like the app) but they may not allow you to create a data table or insert images.

How to create a GoogleDoc on the Ipad This lab journal should be created using Google Docs and “shared” with your teacher. – 1. Open a web browser on your iPad (Safari). – 2. Enter: drive.google.com – 3. Log in with your TA email and password – 4. Create a Document – 5. Title the document: “Your name, block, Lab Journal 1” – 6. Click the little down arrows and select “Use Desktop Version”

Lab Journal 1: Playground Physics By: Olive S. Wings Class: Introduction to Physics Block: Put a title at the top of your document:

Background In complete sentences, answer all of questions from the background portion of your Lab Journal 1 packet.

Experimental Setup Create a separate drawing document to create your labeled pictures of a swingset and the model you used in class. Then insert the drawing into this slide.

Procedure 1: Investigating Mass of Swing Seat Write a numbered list of instructions, explaining how you investigated the effect of mass on the number of swings per minute.

Procedure 2: Investigating Length of String Write a numbered list of instructions, explaining how you investigated the effect of string length on the number of swings per minute.

Data Table 1: The Effect of Mass of Swing Seat on Number of Swings per Minute Insert a table with three rows and five columns. Fill in your data. Be sure to use appropriate units of measurement.

Data Table 2: The Effect of Length of String on Number of Swings per Minute Insert a table with three rows and five columns. Fill in your data. Be sure to use appropriate units of measurement.

Conclusion Write a paragraph, answering all of the conclusion questions from your Lab Journal 1 packet.

Wrapping up…. Did you – Title your document in the correct format? (Your name, block, Lab Journal 1) – Use the template provided so that your Lab Journal has 7 sections? – Title your sections like the example given? – Share your document with your teacher?
