13 The Importance of Reading at Home Research shows that a child should read at home. Reading to your child is just as important! It doesn’t just have to be books... Going back to the simple view of reading – it’s more than just sounding out. Read their reading book? -Look at other materials -Discuss the book: favourite page/character -Phonics detective! What you write can really help.

14 Examples of comprehension questions. It’s not as scary as it sounds! -What is your favourite page and why? -Who is your favourite character why? Draw them. -How do you think X is feeling? Why? -Why did they do that? -How else could the story finish? -If the story kept going what would happen next?

15 Reading Records It is so important that you let us know when what and how your child is reading at home! E.g. -Let us know everything they have done e.g. phonics games -We know to change their books -Makes us aware if it is a confidence issue e.g. are they showing a skill at home and not at school? -Highlights an area that your child needs more practise with.
