T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership11 List of Keywords Comprehensive description of subject using keywords, themes, terms, ideas Specialist technical language that students should be aware of before they go into industry Assist instructors to know the ‘boundaries’ of a given subject. Some keywords will appear in more than one subject, but there should never be a major overlap

T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership12 Total Curriculum Management Steps 1.Review subject resource kit 2.Add additional resources based on fresh scan of what is available 1.Could be simply adding a new textbook or up-to-date readings 3.Acquire class roll (check numbers) 4.Choose which assessments and activities are to be delivered in that given session 5.Teach the content and skills required 6.Reflect how well students have done in assessments and final examination 7.Survey students 8.Enhance subject based on feedback 1.Make changes to subject resource kit

T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership13 Wouldn’t it be great (1/4) Wouldn’t it be great if students did not get a pile of assessments all due on the same day? Wouldn’t it be great if we were able to balance group assessment with individual assessment? E.g. not overuse group assessment, only where it lends itself to it Wouldn’t it be great if we could mix up the types of activities, so students could be in an anticipatory mode, instead of thinking “oh yeah, this again, typical”… Wouldn’t it be great if students could see the value behind every subject they did and this was identified from the outset in one of the first semester subjects? Wouldn’t it be great if degrees were linked to job opportunities?

T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership14 Wouldn’t it be great (2/4) Wouldn’t it be great if students could know ahead of time that a subject was Social-Ethics (S), Communications (C), Project Management (PM), Technical (T)? And that in a given semester, all these main skills were ‘tested’ but in a balanced way? Wouldn’t it be great if staff were able to teach in the subject areas they were expert in and their research linked up almost 1:1 with what they taught? Wouldn’t it be great if staff could teach the same subject about 3 years in a row? Wouldn’t it be great if we could all build a SINGLE web site for every subject with resources, without having to rebuild from scratch every session?

T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership15 Wouldn’t it be great (3/4) Wouldn’t it be great if staff could access an online repository of resources to help them come to grips with a subject they had not taught before? Wouldn’t it be great if tutors had tutorial plans at least 1 week in advance of every lecture? Wouldn’t it be great if marking criteria were set for every assessment? Wouldn’t it be great if plagiarism was not a problem, particularly with our international cohort and that there were built in mechanisms to aid in informing students how to cite correctly from day 1 of their degree?

T&L Scholars RetreatDistributive Leadership16 Wouldn’t it be great (4/4) Wouldn’t it be great if there was a standardised process among academics to handle plagiarism? Wouldn’t it be great if we could get students to attend lectures and tutorials and actively participate and interact? Wouldn’t it be great if we had a process for retaining good work completed by students and reused for future groups? Wouldn’t it be great if we encouraged students to think for themselves and not rote learn? Wouldn’t it be great if subject survey feedback and teacher survey feedback was actually used to enhance subject content and delivery?
