2 What we know: Increased prevalence of mental ill health in children and young people Between 15% and 20% of children/young people have mental health difficulties Approximately less than 20% of the above are seen by specialist mental health services

3 What we know: Audit Commission Review of CAMHS in England and Wales demonstrates that CAMHS professionals spend 1% of their time supporting Primary Care (Tier 1)

10 Referral Pathway Before CAF was implemented, a single point of referral was set up, by CCAMHS and Educational Psychology, joined by all support services, to be accessed by schools Most appropriate service allocated case quickly Helps to avoid duplication Allows onward referral and joint working between services

11 EYMHS Based in Children’s Centres Direct therapeutic work with referred families Group work (Social Baby, Motherhood in Mind, Triple P, Incredible Years) Training and consultation

12 EYMHS Training The EYMHS have developed a three-session, Early Years mental health training programme, with a focus on attachment Offered to every Early Years worker in Sunderland

13 CCAMHS Training Training menu offered to all Tier 1 professionals Links to the SEN training plan which are firmly established so accessible Deliver SCAMHP as a baseline training Additional disorder-based training offered

14 Healthy Schools Programme Theme 4 relates to our knowledge and expertise Opportunity to work with education and public health partners Training opportunities Moderation allows the chance to see and be seen and to see how a particular school works

15 TaMHS Wave 1 Pathfinder (there are 3 in the North East) Opportunities to try out evidence-based practice in a new way Continuous feedback Monitoring both at local and national level Sustainability

16 TaMHS Designated lead for mental health in school Extra training (CBT; disorder-based training, CAMHS awareness) Opportunities for networking and cluster meetings Supported by a web forum, hosted by the Children’s Trust website in Sunderland
