2 What can you find in TUSK? Tool for managing content: Content Management System (CMS) Course materials such as: Course syllabi Slide collections (powerpoints) Class handouts Lecture recordings (videos & audios) Links to full-text articles Course evaluations All course evaluations are completed through TUSK

3 CMS Objectives Help faculty manage their course layout, content, and resources Knowledge management

4 Why you should use TUSK Manage Content – provide electronic availability of course materials, specify access privileges, and post relevant documents and resources. Reuse TUSK Content – allows for cross-curricular approach and instructional design. Link Objectives to content and to courses. Communications – increase the efficiency of communication with students through email, discussions, and announcements.

5 How to get into TUSK? Go to: www.tusk.tufts.eduwww.tusk.tufts.edu Log-in page: Use your Tufts email Username and Password to log into the TUSK site Remember to log out after every session

9 In Section A you will find… This section lists all the courses and committees you have authoring privileges to

10 In Section B you will find… Quick Content Modify: Quickly search for a piece of content to modify… enter the content id numbercontent id number Recently Modified: List of the last 10 content you have modified or has your name attached with it PPT Conversion Status: Look here to see the status of powerpoints that you have uploaded My Folder: Contains all pieces of content that has your name associated with it Search My Content: Search tool that searches content listed in you’re My Folders

12 The Breadcrumb Trail Breadcrumb Trail: set of links that represent the level (which screen) you are currently in. If you "get lost" in the CMS, just use your bread crumb trail to find your way back.

13 Section A: Course Information General: Enter/update general information about the course (i.e. Objectives, Attendance and Grading policies, etc.) Communication: Create class announcements, post discussion topics, or send out class/small group emails. Management: Enter/update faculty/staff information, maintain small groups, grades, and student lists. Interactive: Create/modify quizzes and cases. Tools: Track the number of hits to the course pages or course contents. Patient Logs: View reports of students’ log of patient encounters

16 Creating a Folder 1.Select the New Folder tab 2.Fill in Metadata informationMetadata

18 PDF & Word Document Please Note there is a difference between a PDF and a Word Document when viewed in TUSK: PDF can be seen online or be downloaded (PDF cannot be edited by others) a Word Document can only be downloaded

19 Metadata Page for Powerpoints Note: It will take a few minutes for the conversion to be complete. You can check the status of your PowerPoint Conversions by looking on the Manage Content page under the section that is PPT Conversion Status Option 1: PPT is converted into a collection of jpeg images Option 2: Like option 1 and also include the ppt file there to be downloaded Option 3: Only the downloaded file is listed

20 Create a HTML Document Type directly into the text box You can also copy and paste directly from a Word document you have previously created.

21 Reusing Content 1.Select the Reuse TUSK Content tab 2.Select: Exact Content or Editable Copy Enter in the content id of the piece of content you want to reuse

22 Linking URLs 1.Select the Link to URL tab 2.Fill in the metadata page Paste the link of the site into the URL section and give it a name 3.For Full-Text articles from library licensed materials go to the HELP section and follow the instruction for each type of material

23 TUSK Interactive Features Grade Book Quiz Maker Cases

24 Grade Book The Grade Book feature gives faculty an easy way to provide prompt feedback in a secure environment. Faculty and staff can manage class grades using the web-based grade book system while students monitor their individual progress simply by logging into TUSK. The Grade Book provides a level of privacy for students as they can only access their own grades. An added feature of the Grade Book includes the ability to import a tab delimited text file

25 Quiz Maker The Quiz Maker feature gives faculty and staff an easy-to-use method for creating online quizzes and self-assessments. Setup a self-assessment to give your students a pretest prior to the first lecture or give students practice before the final exam. You could also use the quiz feature to add some interactivity into homework 3 types of quizzes to choose from: Graded, Feedback, and Self-Assessment

26 Cases The Case Simulator provides a streamlined, user friendly interface to design and create cases within a course. The objective is to provide a concise yet information rich experience. The interaction can be as short as 10 minutes or as long as 30. The tool allows faculty to provide information, solicit input, provide feedback, and record student actions if desired. Student View

28 Streaming Media on TUSK TUSK streams media files in the following formats: Audio MP3 Video MPEG Windows Media Real Media QuickTime Flash Shockwave TUSK offers the options to stream/download the media file Create movies with all audiences in mind (dial-up, divided large files, etc.)

30 TUSK Training Sessions The TUSK Training and Support staff offers training sessions on how to upload your course materials, personalize and manage your course online, and perform related administrative tasks. We offer one-on-one and small group trainings either at your desk or in one of the campus computer labs. To schedule a training session or to request TUSK training material, simply email tusk@tufts.edu and in the subject line place “TUSK Training Request”. We will work with you to provide the best training possible for your needs and interests.
