DENSITY

Factors affecting density Temperature- as temperature increases density decreases. Pressure- as pressure increases density increases. Size – if you cut an item in half density stays the same.

Float or Sink Anything with a density less than one will float in water. If there are numbers to the left of the decimal it will sink!

Gold is very dense - it feels very heavy for its size. D = 19.3g/cm 3

Plastic is not very dense - it feels light for its size. P = 1g/cm 3

THE EQUATION D =M V

THE TRICK

Cover up the one you want to solve for!

Let’s solve for VOLUME. “M over D” is remaining so we divide!

Let’s solve for Density. “M over V” is remaining so we divide!

Let’s solve for Mass. “D next to V” is remaining so we multiply!

Solving for density: mass or density volume volume/ mass Examples: water:100ml100g= glass: 1ml 4g= 1g/ml 4g/ml
