2 It is defined as any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. Domestic abuse can encompass but is not limited to the following types of abuse: psychological, physical, sexual, financial and emotional.

3 On 29 April 2015 a new law came into being, the ‘Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015’ which can be accessed via http://www.legislation.gov.uk/anaw/2015/3/pdfs/anaw _20150003_en.pdf http://www.legislation.gov.uk/anaw/2015/3/pdfs/anaw _20150003_en.pdf The purpose of this Act is to improve arrangements for the prevention, protection and support for people affected by gender-based violence, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

4 Live Fear Free is a Welsh Government website, providing information and advice for those suffering with domestic abuse, sexual violence and other forms of violence against women and can be contacted on 0808 8010 800 or e-mail: info@livefearfreehelpline.walesinfo@livefearfreehelpline.wales This website is also an important resource for the Live Fear Free Helpline which is managed by Welsh Women’s Aid but wholly funded by Welsh Government. This is primarily a helpline for those suffering with domestic abuse and sexual violence, but you can call them regarding any form of violence against women and they will refer you to a service in your area. Alternatively you can call one of the national helplines for Female Genital Mutilation, Honour Based Violence/Forced Marriage and Slavery provided on the website

6 The National Training Framework on violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence outlines the Welsh Government's requirements for training on these subjects across the public service and specialist third sector. The Framework is made up of six groups. All professions within the Public Service will fall into one of these groups and a minimum training requirement is outlined per group. At present Group 1 training has been developed and is a statutory requirement for all public service staff. Group 1 Aimed at: All Public Service Professionals. Purpose: All staff working with the Public Service will have a basic understanding and awareness of what violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence is, how to recognise it and what help is available.
