Establish an understanding of data warehousing and create awareness among senior leaders. Realize the value of data warehousing and generate buy-in from senior executives in the organization. Build a framework to facilitate the building of an Agile data warehouse that delivers agility and architecture holistically. Project Managers and Business Analysts in accelerating a data warehousing project by following a best practice data warehousing approach that leverages emerging data modelling patterns and data technologies. 4 Info-Tech Research Group4 4 Key terms used in this blueprint Agile: A development methodology that focuses on the use of collaboration, prototyping, empowerment, and self-organization to develop working deliverables in a fixed time frame. Agile Data Warehouse: A data warehouse that is developed with the Agile methodology. Business Intelligence (BI): Presentation of a data warehouse in the form of a BI portal, reports, dashboards, scorecards, alerts, ad hoc queries, and/or self-service BI. BI and data warehousing are used interchangeably in many situations. Data Warehouse (DW): An analytical data repository that combines, integrates, and organizes data from multiple data sources for analytical purposes. The data is usually reorganized into an easy to digest format. Data Warehousing: The practice of using a data warehouse to fulfill information needs. Data Warehouse Foundation: A foundation laid for subsequent data warehouse development. The foundation is made of foundational information needs, foundational data architecture, and foundational technology stacks. The foundation serves as a knowledgebase that provides the necessary knowledge for later development. Data Warehouse Iteration: Iterations with a fixed time frame that are used to build tangible deliverables to deliver business value. Iterations can also be a pilot project, clean-up measure, and/or maintenance project. Prototyping: The process of creating prototypes. Prototypes are usually developed collaboratively between IT and the business. Prototyping allows effective requirements gathering, visualization of the end product, early and frequent testing, and end-user training.

5 Info-Tech Research Group5 5 Executive summary 1.Iterations on foundation First, build a top-down knowledge foundation that will be the base of your data warehouse. This will consider your information, architecture, and technology needs. 2.Inject agility into iterations After your foundation is established, implement your data warehouse in iterations: starting from the ground up and scaling one department at a time. 3.Requirements gathering framework Follow our requirements gathering framework to ensure efficient and effective processes. Resolution Situation ! Complication ? Data is becoming an essential business asset. Organizations do not know how to properly store and organize data so that it is safe, structured, and can be efficiently accessed. Data is coming from more sources than before and is being stored separately. External data is not adequately utilized. Departments all manage their own data, resulting in disparate data stores with incorrect, duplicate, and incomplete data across the organization. No one has a holistic view or easy access to enterprise data, leading to operational inefficiencies and poor decision making. A data warehouse project is hard to champion since it is complicated and expensive. Building a centralized and integrated data warehouse is the first step in establishing a comprehensive and trustworthy information environment within your organization. Gain a holistic view of your organization through an enterprise-wide data repository, enabling casual business users to perform analytics and increase operational efficiency. Follow Info-Tech’s unique approach to designing and implementing your data warehouse to see early value and increase engagement and buy-in to the warehouse project. Info-Tech Insight
