5 What is FFA?? Youth Organization/Student run Nationwide including Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands Focuses on preparing students for a career Three levels: middle school, high school, and collegiate.

6 What is FFA? 3 main areas of focus: – Premier leadership – Personal growth – Career success

7 Mission The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

8 Activity FFA Dream BINGO!

9 History of FFA 1925- Henry Groseclose and others met to discuss an organization for boys in agriculture classes. “Father of FFA” – This became the Future Farmers of Virginia

10 History of FFA 1928- Future Farmers of America was created in Kansas City, MO 1929- National blue and corn gold adopted as official FFA colors

11 History of FFA 1930- Official creed written by E.M Tiffany is adopted 1948- record jump in membership

12 History of FFA 1953- Dwight D. Eisenhower first president to speak at a National FFA Convention 1965- New Farmers of America merges with FFA 1969- girls can join FFA

13 History of FFA 1973- Official Dress standards created 1988- Name changes to National FFA Organization. 7 th and 8 th grade students can join.

14 History of FFA 1999- FFA National Convention held in Louisville, KY 2002- official dress standards revised

15 History of FFA 2005- Seeds of Hope- Hurricane Katrina 2006- National Convention held in Indianapolis, IN 2009- 40 th anniversary of women in FFA

18 Official Colors Corn Gold- crop grown in every state, common with the entire organization. National Blue- blue of flag, represents national scope of organization and openness.

20 SYMBOL? Symbol – something visible that by association or convention represents something else that is invisible; "the eagle is a symbol of the United States"

21 EMBLEM? Emblem: – special design or visual object representing a quality, type, group, etc. a visible symbol representing an abstract idea

22 The Emblem Cross section of an ear of corn- crop of corn represents foundation of American agriculture

23 The Emblem Rising sun- signifies progress and promise of opportunity for a new day
