8. 12:30-31 30 do not fall into the trap of following their customs and worshiping their gods. Do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations worship their gods? You may give it to a foreigner living in your town, or you may sell it to a stranger. But do not eat it yourselves, for you are set apart as holy to YaHWeH your God. Honor YaHWeH from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine.”

33. 17:14-15 “ Qualifications for a king ” 14 “You are about to enter the land YaHWeH your God is giving you. When you take it over and settle there, you may think, ‘We should select a king to rule over us like the other nations around us.’ 15 If this happens, be sure to select as king the man YaHWeH your God chooses. You must appoint a fellow Israelite; he may not be a foreigner.

34. 17:16-17 “ Instructions for the king ” 16 “The king must not build up a large stable of horses for himself or send his people to Egypt to buy horses, for YaHWeH has told you, ‘You must never return to Egypt.’ 17 The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from YaHWeH. 36. 17:20 “ Instructions for the king ” 20 This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.
