Deuteronomy 12-18 “A Prophet Like Me”

12:2-3 Break down smashBurn cut down Completely erase 2 “When you drive out the nations that live there, you must destroy all the places where they worship their gods—high on the mountains, up on the hills, and under every green tree. 3 Break down their altars and smash their sacred pillars. Burn their Asherah poles and cut down their carved idols. Completely erase the names of their gods! 4 “Do not worship YaHWeH your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods.

12:31 “You must not worship YaHWeH your God the way the other nations worship their gods, for they perform for their gods every detestable act that YaHWeH hates. They even burn their sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods.”

12:11-14 …to the designated place of worship, the place YaHWeH your God chooses for his name to be honored. 12 “You must celebrate there in the presence of YaHWeH your God with your sons and daughters and all your servants…. 13 Be careful not to sacrifice your burnt offerings just anywhere you like. 14 You may do so only at the place YaHWeH will choose within one of your tribal territories.

John 14:6 ( NASB 95) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Acts 4:12 (NASB95) 12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

12:23-25 23 But never consume the blood, for the blood is the life, and you must not consume the lifeblood with the meat. 24 Instead, pour out the blood on the ground like water. 25 Do not consume the blood, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what pleases YaHWeH.

Acts 15:28–29 ( NIV 84) 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

12:30-31 30 do not fall into the trap of following their customs and worshiping their gods. Do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations worship their gods? I want to follow their example.’ 31 You must not worship YaHWeH your God the way the other nations worship their gods, for they perform for their gods every detestable act that YaHWeH hates.

13:2-4 If they then say, ‘Come, let us worship other gods’—gods you have not known before— 3 do not listen to them. YaHWeH your God is testing you to see if you truly love Him with all your heart and soul. 4 Serve only YaHWeH your God and fear Him alone. Obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him.

Jude 4 NLT saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives “I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”

Galatians 1:8–9 ( NKJV ) 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

13:6-11 6 “Suppose someone secretly entices you—even your brother, your son or daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend—and says, ‘Let us go worship other gods... 8 But do not give in or listen. Have no pity, and do not spare or protect them… 10 Stone the guilty ones to death because they have tried to draw you away from YaHWeH your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery.

14:21 You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk. 21 “You must not eat anything that has died a natural death. You may give it to a foreigner living in your town, or you may sell it to a stranger. But do not eat it yourselves, for you are set apart as holy to YaHWeH your God. You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Leviticus 22:28 NASB 95 “But, whether it is an ox or a sheep, you shall not kill both it and its young in one day.” “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” (vs. 21) “the prohibition against cooking, eating, or deriving an benefit from a mixture of milk and meat”

14:22-23 Doing this will teach you always to fear YaHWeH your God. 22 “You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. 23 Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place YaHWeH your God chooses for His Name to be honored—and eat it there in His presence…Doing this will teach you always to fear YaHWeH your God.

Proverbs 3:7–10 NASB 95 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear YaHWeH and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. Honor YaHWeH from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine.”

14:27-29 27 And do not neglect the Levites in your town, for they will receive no allotment of land among you. 28 “At the end of every third year, bring the entire tithe of that year’s harvest and store it in the nearest town. 29 Give it to the Levites, who will receive no allotment of land among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, so they can eat and be satisfied.

12:12, 19 12 And remember to include the Levites who live in your towns, for they will receive no allotment of land among you… 19 And be very careful never to neglect the Levites as long as you live in your land.

Malachi 3:8–10 NIV 84 “Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—the whole nation of you— because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house…

1 Timothy 5:17–18 ( NLT ) “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” 17 Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”

1 Corinthians 9:13–14 NASB 95 13 Do you not know that those who perform sacred services eat the food of the temple, and those who attend regularly to the altar have their share from the altar? 14 So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel.

15:1-5 1 “At the end of every seventh year you must cancel the debts of everyone who owes you money… 3 This release from debt, however, applies only to your fellow Israelites—not to the foreigners living among you. 4 “There should be no poor among you, for YaHWeH your God will greatly bless you in the land He is giving you as a special possession.

15:10-11 10 Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for YaHWeH your God will bless you in everything you do. 11 There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.

Mark 14:6–8 NASB 95 “For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; 6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me. 7 “For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8 “She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial.

Proverbs NASB 95 11:25 The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.

Proverbs 24:30–34 NASB 95 I looked, and received instruction 30 I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense, 31 And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. 32 When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction. 33 “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,” 34 Then your poverty will come as a robber and your want like an armed man.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 NKJV “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”

15:16-18 15:16-18 16 “But suppose your servant says, ‘I will not leave you,’ because he loves you and your family, and he has done well with you. 17 In that case, take an awl and push it through his earlobe into the door. After that, he will be your servant for life. Romans 1:1 (NASB95) Romans 1:1 (NASB95) 1 Paul, a bond- servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God…

16:1-17 - Feasts the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters 16 “Each year every man in Israel must celebrate these three festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. On each of these occasions, all men must appear before YaHWeH your God at the place He chooses, but they must not appear before YaHWeH without a gift for Him.

16:18-20 20 Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that YaHWeH your God is giving you. 18 “Appoint judges and officials for yourselves from each of your tribes in all the towns YaHWeH your God is giving you. They must judge the people fairly. 19 You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly. 20 Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that YaHWeH your God is giving you.

17:6-7 In this way, you will purge the evil from among you. 6 But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be two or three witnesses. 7 The witnesses must throw the first stones, and then all the people may join in. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you.

17:8-13 – The “ Supreme Court ” 8 “Suppose a case arises in a local court that is too hard for you to decide…Take such legal cases to the place YaHWeH your God will choose, 9 and present them to the Levitical priests or the judge on duty at that time. They will hear the case and declare the verdict… 11 After they have interpreted the law and declared their verdict, the sentence they impose must be fully executed; do not modify it in any way.

17:14-15 “ Qualifications for a king ” 14 “You are about to enter the land YaHWeH your God is giving you. When you take it over and settle there, you may think, ‘We should select a king to rule over us like the other nations around us.’ 15 If this happens, be sure to select as king the man YaHWeH your God chooses. You must appoint a fellow Israelite; he may not be a foreigner.

17:16-17 “ Instructions for the king ” 16 “The king must not build up a large stable of horses for himself or send his people to Egypt to buy horses, for YaHWeH has told you, ‘You must never return to Egypt.’ 17 The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from YaHWeH. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.

17:18-19 “ Instructions for the king ” 18 “When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. 19 He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear YaHWeH his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees.

17:20 “ Instructions for the king ” 20 This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.

1 Kings 10:28–11:6 NASB 95 Solomon held fast to these in love… his wives turned his heart away. 28 Also Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt… 1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women… 2 from the nations concerning which YaHWeH had said to the sons of Israel, “You shall not associate with them, nor shall they associate with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods.” Solomon held fast to these in love… his wives turned his heart away.

Matthew 7:24–27 NLT Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

Matthew 7:24–27 NLT But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

18:9-11 9 “When you enter the land YaHWeH your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.

18:15 a prophet like me 15 Moses continued, “YaHWeH your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to Him. Exodus 33:11 (NASB95) Exodus 33:11 (NASB95) 1 Thus YaHWeH used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend.

Numbers 12:6–8 NASB 95 7 “Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household; 8 With him I speak mouth to mouth, Even openly, and not in dark sayings 6 He said, “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, YaHWeH, shall make Myself known to him in a vision. I shall speak with him in a dream. 7 “Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household; 8 With him I speak mouth to mouth, Even openly, and not in dark sayings, And he beholds the form of YaHWeH. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant, against Moses?”

18:17-19 19 I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on My behalf. 17 “Then YaHWeH said to me, ‘What they have said is right. 18 I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put My words in His mouth, and He will tell the people everything I command Him. 19 I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on My behalf.

John 1:21 NASB 95 21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” John 5:45–47 (NLT) because he wrote about me John 5:45–47 (NLT) 45 “Yet it isn’t I who will accuse you before the Father. Moses will accuse you! Yes, Moses, in whom you put your hopes. 46 If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.

John 6:14, 7:40 NASB 95 “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.” 14 Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”… “This certainly is the Prophet.” 7:40 Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is the Prophet.”

John 10:7–9 NASB 95 “All who came before Me are thieves and robbers 7 So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 “All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Acts 3:19-26 NASB 95 22 “Moses said, ‘Y A HW E H G OD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR BRETHREN ; TO H IM YOU SHALL GIVE HEED to everything He says to you. 23 ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’

Matthew 27:24–25 NASB 95 24 When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.” 25 And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!”

John 3:16–20 NASB 95 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16–20 NASB 95 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
