2 There are proposed changes to the finance package for students starting a full-time higher education course in 2009/2010. These include changing the previously intended 2009/10 package of support including eligibility for the levels of grants and loans. 4 Tuition Fee Loan Not means-tested Available to all eligible students Maximum £3,225 [2009/2010 rate] Not compulsory: students can also — Pay full Fees themselves; or — Pay part of the Fees and take out a Tuition Fee Loan for the rest Paid by Student Loans Company direct to University or College There are proposed changes to the finance package for students starting a full-time higher education course in 2009/2010. 11 Student Loan Facts Interest charged from when loans are taken out until they are repaid in full Charged from point of borrowing Liability to repay student loans begins April after graduation Any outstanding balance written off by government 25 years after this date

12 Loan Repayment April after graduation Earnings above £1,250 before tax per month (equivalent to £15,000 gross per year) Repaid through tax system Can make lump-sum repayments (to redeem early; no penalties for doing this)
