2 Leeds Mentoring Pipeline Mission: To enhance the Leeds academic experience by providing opportunities to develop academic, personal, and professional skills through a continuum of mentoring relationships. Vision: The Leeds Mentoring Office aspires to set the standard for integrating mentored learning experiences into business education; providing our students with the real-world skills, knowledge and experience necessary to be early contributors and future business leaders. 4 The Peer2Peer program will provide you with many rewards: Learning from a more-experienced individual Special P2P bi-weekly skill building seminars Engagement with a vibrant community of Leeds students Have an increased cohort community through programs and activities Find new ways to anticipate and solve typical first year problems Gather information about university-sponsored academic and social issues Different Levels Level 1: Weekly check in’s, once a month in person meetings Level 2: Weekly cohort times ARE YOU READY??

5 Being a Mentee Is: Learning some skills to help you in college Talking about your goals and how you can achieve them Focusing on your future Being open and trusting of the mentoring relationship DO… Commit to new things and take risks Listen to your mentor and seek to understand the advice he/she gives you Ask your mentor how they learned the information they are sharing with you; books, life experiences, seminars, etc. Return phone calls, emails or texts from your mentors Do Not… Depend on your mentor to identify your goals for you Treat your mentor like a tutor for your business classes Be disrespectful by not returning phone calls, emails or texts from your mentor

6 Milestones of Program Mentee Orientations and Kickoff BBQ: TODAY Mentoring Partnership Agreement Due: September 30th Peer2Peer bi-weekly sponsored workshops events: Fall & Spring semester –How to study for college level classes –How to get involved in Leeds student clubs –How to utilize social media & Career Connections in your professional development/job search –Understanding the Leeds Curriculum and looking forward (emphasis areas/certificates) Weekly check-in’s with your mentor (by text, facebook, etc) Monthly 1:1’s with mentor to review your goals

8 Making it work! 1.Communicate! -Set up regular meeting times to talk -Return texts and emails! Be respectful. -Be open and comfortable 2. Set goals for yourself so you have something that your mentor can help you with - Be clear about what you want to focus on 3. Be open to learning new information from your mentor. A lot of the success of your partnership will depend on you. Take the initiative to reach out, establish a relationship and learn from your mentor.

9 Mentoring Agreement What does the mentee want out of the relationship? What are the mentees goals? What kind of expectations do mentee and mentor have of each other? How often will you meet? Where and when will you meet? Who is responsible for scheduling meetings? Is phone and texting ok?

10 S.M.A.R.T goals Specific- The goal should be concrete and action orientated. Should start with an action verb (for ex: develop, improve, create) Measurable- How will you know when you have achieved the goal? How do you define success? Achievable- The goal should be challenging, but attainable. Is the goal too big or too easy? Realistic- Do you have the ability to reach the goal? What additional resources will you need? Timely- When do you expect to have your goal accomplished? End of first week? First semester?

12 HOW TO SPEND A HALF HOUR WITH A MENTOR 10 Minutes: Share at least two things that you have done since the last time you met. 10 Minutes: Plan an event that the two of you can do together. 10 Minutes: Ask a question about a goal or interest that you have 5 Minutes: Ask your mentor about events that have occurred in his or her life since you last met
