What Your School Needs to Know About FSA The online FSA Portal is the starting place for all FSA programs, resources, and information. Information previously published on the FDOE website will now be available on the portal. You can register for email alerts and be notified when new announcements or resources are posted. Users will access TIDE, TDS, and ORS through the portal. www.FSAssessments.org

Training Tests/ePats Training tests are available for students to become familiar with the CBT platform and item types. Training tests are available by grade band, not grade level. Answer keys and a user guide are available on the portal. Training tests with CBT accommodations will be available in the fall when the secure browser is available for download. Grade-level/subject-specific practice tests will be available in Fall 2015. Paper-based Sample Test Materials for grades 3 and 4, including large print and braille (all grades), are being developed.

Training Tests/ePats – UPDATE 10/17 The AIR FSA Training Tests have undergone some revisions and have been reposted on the FSA Portal. New features: Internet Explorer 10 and 11 compatibility Scientific calculator for FSA EOC assessments Ability to skip items Item Review screen at the end of each test New tools including Line Reader tool Writing formatting tools In addition, some tool placement has changed in the toolbar. Please access the updated Quick Guide to the Training Tests at http://www.fsassessments.org/training-tests for instructions and descriptions of the new features.http://www.fsassessments.org/training-tests

Training webinars for the FSA systems will occur 10/29 & 11/5 for District-level personnel only TestNav8 Training scheduled for 11/10/2014 (am or pm session available) – Make-up 11/14 DOE provided in-person training for school personnel will take place at regional locations in late January and early February Webinars will be recorded and posted on the portal Training

Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) User-specific roles Accounts may be created individually or through a file upload Users may create users at or below their level DOE will provide a list of user roles and instructions Assigned roles will apply to all systems (TIDE, TDS, ORS)

Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) PreID upload Add/Edit/Delete Students Place Additional Orders Shipment Tracking Print PreID labels Assign Accommodations Invalidate CBT tests Check Answer Document Tracking Reports

Test Delivery System (TDS) The Test Delivery System (TDS) requires a secure browser download on each computer/device that will be used for testing. Response files are not saved locally. If there is a disruption in connectivity during testing, the student will be prevented from continuing to test until the issue is resolved. CBT Accommodations can be set for students through an upload OR by the test administrator prior to testing.

Test Delivery System (TDS) Create Test Sessions Created before testing Session information is posted for students in the room so they may log in Student Login/Testing Approve Students Once students log in, the test administrator must approve them in TDS before they can access the test Pause Students Test administrators may pause student tests for a break, etc.

Headphones/Earbuds Grades 5-11 students need headphones or earbuds for all CBT ELA Reading tests. There are no specifications for headphones or earbuds, but please check to ensure that they work with your computers or devices prior to the day of the test. Headphones/earbuds are not provided by the department. Students may use their own headphones or earbuds. A sound test is built in to the beginning of the assessments and students are asked to verify that headphones and earbuds are working prior to entering the test.

FSA Session Timing Sessions are built to provide student access to specific items at the same time. Once a student has submitted or finalized a session, he or she cannot return to those items. Students are permitted to take personal breaks, as needed. Students will be able to skip items on live tests and detailed instructions will be provided in administration scripts.

FSA Mathematics *For Grades 6-8 Mathematics, you may schedule Session 1 on day one and Sessions 2 and 3 on day two, or Sessions 1 and 2 on day one and Session 3 on day two. 26 Calculators FSA Grades 7-8 Mathematics and all FSA EOC Mathematics will have a scientific calculator provided in the test delivery system for certain sessions. The scientific calculator is available for Sessions 2 and 3 of the Grades 7-8 tests and for Session 2 of EOCs. Calculators will not be permitted for session 1. Handheld scientific calculators may be provided to ALL students during the calculator-allowed session(s). FDOE will NOT provide a list of approved handheld calculators for FSA tests. We will provide a list of allowable and not-allowable functionalities for the scientific calculator. The scientific calculator will appear in the FSA EOC training tests when they are updated and released this month (the calculator in the currently posted EOC training tests has a graphing tool and a regression tool that will no longer be available after the update).

Additional Notes for ELA Assessments The FSA ELA has a Text-Based Writing Component that is administered separately from the rest of the FSA ELA March 2-13, 2015 Reported as part of the ELA score. It is administered earlier to allow time for hand scoring. 10 point Rubrics (Found on FSA Portal) ELA Writing Scoring Implications Guide <-NEW!!ELA Writing Scoring Implications Guide

2014-15 Assessments Winter 2014 FSA ELA Writing Component Field Test Purpose: to obtain item statistics on the newly-developed writing prompts for grades 4 to 11; and to review the item statistics and choose writing prompts that will be used as operational items beginning in the 2015-2016 school year 45,000 students will be selected for the sample Schools selected for NAEP and TIMSS will be excluded from the sample

2014-15 Assessments Winter 2014 FSA ELA Writing Component Field Test December 1–19, 2014 Online Test Administration Manual CBT ONLY Grades 4-11; all grade bands in a selected school will participate Two different prompts administered to each student on two different days One 90-minute session for each prompt You will be notified of selected schools in mid- to late- September Planning sheets will be shipped based on sample numbers.

2014-15 Assessments For grades 3 and 4 students, all schools in the district should adhere to the same assessment schedule. For grades 5-11 students, if a school finishes a test before other schools, that school may continue to the next scheduled test. For example, if a middle school is able to complete Grade 6 Reading in two days and another middle school needs four days (due to technology, number of students, etc.), the first school does not need to wait to begin Grade 6 Mathematics until the other school finishes testing Grade 6 Reading. You may schedule all EOCs (FSA and NGSSS) in any order or concurrently by school. FSA EOCs are two 90-minute sessions over two days. Students may be dismissed at the end of 90 minutes or they may continue working up to half the length of a typical school day on each of the two days. NGSSS EOCs remain 160 minutes. Students may be dismissed at the end of 80 minutes or continue to work up to the length of a typical school day. There is no limit on administration days within a testing window.

NGSSS Assessment Updates TestHear will no longer be used beginning Winter 2014 and beyond. Accommodations provided in TestNav 8. Algebra 1 will be administered with FCAT 2.0 Retake in Spring 2015, not with other EOCs.

Accommodations CBT Tools and Accommodations Both platforms: color contrast, zoom, line reader are universal tools (TN 8 also has a magnifier) Accommodations: answer masking and text-to- speech (formerly ScreenReader)

Read-Aloud Accommodations FSA ELA Writing Component – Students with an oral presentation accommodation on their IEP/504 plans may have the directions and prompt read aloud to them. The Writing Component of the ELA test has students to read a variety of texts and respond to what they have read. Because this portion of the test assesses reading skills as well as writing skills, the passages may NOT be read aloud to students. FSA ELA Reading – Students with an oral presentation accommodation on their IEP/504 plans may have the directions, test questions, and answer choices read aloud to them. The Reading passages may NOT be read aloud to students.

Read-Aloud Accommodations Cont. FSA Mathematics – All mathematics directions, test questions, and answer choices may be read aloud to students with this accommodation (this policy has not changed). For CBT tests, text-to-speech (formerly ScreenReader) features will be available on the appropriate read-aloud portions for students who are assigned this accommodation in the system. Any portions of tests that may be read aloud to students may also be signed for students with this accommodation.

What’s New Unique Accommodations Beginning with Winter 2014, One-Item-Per-Page (PBT and CBT) and Large Print (CBT) are no longer “unique accommodations.” Student eligibility for ALL paper-based accommodations must be confirmed at the district level and submitted to FDOE. Remember: paper-based accommodations should only be provided for CBT tests if students CANNOT access assessments on the computer. Special Documents Regular Print, Large Print, Braille, One-Item-Per-Page

What’s New Test Administration and Security Agreement Revised so that test administrators and other school personnel may sign ONE form for the school year This revision is now posted online The new form is in the Winter 2014 EOC TAM (Pearson) and also now posted online Seating Chart Schools are now instructed to record laptop/device information for each student

Policy Session Order Students must complete Session 1 before they begin Session 2 (and Session 2 before Session 3) Students who move on to Session 2 on day one of a two-day test should be allowed to complete in the same day Makeup test concerns Testing two different sessions/subjects in the same room Makeup tests for two-day tests should not have Session 1 scheduled on the last day of the window

Certification Tool Winter CBT Certification (Required) October 20–November 17, 2014 Pearson Winter EOC and AIR FSA Writing Field Test Resources available on Assessment Central under CBT Support. CBT Support Spring 2015 CBT Certification (Required) January 20–February 16, 2015 FSA ELA, Mathematics, and EOC February 9–March 9, 2015 Pearson Retakes and EOC

Infrastructure Trials Both TDS and TestNav 8 will have Infrastructure Trials for schools to run to test their systems. The Infrastructure Trial for AIR will be available prior to the Winter 2014 FSA ELA Writing Field Test. A statewide Infrastructure Trial will be conducted in January for AIR/TDS. Information about completion of the Infrastructure Trials will be collected through the Certification Tool.
