Problem  Does color of light effect the growth of photosynthesis? plants more s color of light effect the growth of photosynthesis?

Hypothesis  white light will photosynthesize the white light will photosynthesize the plants more than the others. Green will the least. The darker colors will grow taller and thinner.  Does color of light effect the growth of photosynthesis? plants more

Materials  10 pansies  Container  Small Pots  2 plants per color  Color of lights (wraps)  Red  Green  Yellow  Blue  Clear  50 mL of water a day.

Method  In our experiment, we studied the photosynthesis of ten pansies plants. We did this using different colors of lights. There were two plants per each light. The light colors included: red, green, yellow, blue and clear. The pansies were kept in the greenhouse. We measured the growth, the leaf color and the moisture of the dirt and leaves.

Results Day 1: Red- 4 ½ - 6 cm tall Blue- 5 – 7 cm tall Green- 5 ½ cm tall Yellow- 4 – 6 ½ cm tall Clear- 4 ½ - 5 cm tall Day 2: Red-4 ½-6 cm; healthier, 1 bud Blue-6 ½-7 cm; taller, 3 buds Green-5-5 ½ cm; unhealthy Yellow-4 ½-7 cm; same, 2 buds Clear-5-6 ½ cm; healthier, 2 buds Day 3: Red-4 ½-6 cm; starting to wilt and darker Blue-6-7 ½ cm; starting to wilt, darker, 1 bud Green-5-5 ½ cm; darker, sprawled, 2 buds Yellow-4 ½-7 cm; yellow tint, healthy, 3 buds Clear-5 ½-6 ½ cm; normal, 2 buds Days 4-5: No records taken-weekend

Day 6: Red-4 ½-6 cm; darker, 2 buds Blue-6 ½-7 cm; healthy, grew outward, 6 buds Green-4 ½-5 ½ cm; looks smaller, 7 buds Yellow-5-7 ½ cm; taller, healthy, yellow tint, 3 buds Clear-5 ½-7 ½ cm; grew, less healthy, 6 buds Day 7: Red-5-6 cm; same, 2 buds Blue-6 ½-7 cm; healthy, blue tint, 2 buds Green-5 ½-6 cm; straggly Yellow-5-7 ½ cm; healthy, 3 buds Clear-5 ½-7 ½ cm; could be healthier Results Cont.

Conclusion  From our data, we learned what colors of light help and hinder plant growth.  Our hypothesis was mostly right. The clear did grow the best, but yellow grew well too. Green grew the worst, as did red. Blue (dark) grew the tallest.  Sources of error could include amount of light given or measurement variations.  A follow up experiment could be seeing how different temperatures affect plant growth. Or we could use a different type of plant and do the same experiment with the different colored lights.
