Ultriva User’s Conference 2012 Collaborative Planning and Execution Presented by Narayan Laksham

Planning and Execution Planning group are data crunchers. They analyze – Sales Forecasts – Order history – Production capacity – Customer demands – Supplier lead times – Supplier performance – Safety stocks Execution group are accountable for material availability and normally includes: – Procurement – Purchasing – Materials – Supply chain 2

Roles Planning is batch oriented and will focus on: – Getting right set of data – Crunch complex algorithms – Analyze results – Finally predict what to do Execution is real time and will focus on: – Procuring parts – Supplier performance – Responding to exceptions – Ensuring no part shortages Groups operate as silos but planning drives execution Result: – Batch oriented process drives a set of real time processes This worked well when manufacturing was producing to stock 3

Ultriva ties planning and execution Builds an iterative feedback loop 4

Key questions about future requirements Part shortages – When – How frequent – Which parts – Option to expedite or not – Impact of demand change Resizing – Spike orders – Temporary sizing – Permanent sizing – $$ impact 5

Identifying part shortages using a planning engine Computes on-hand inventory for the planning period. It uses: – Current on-hand – Current lead time/transit time – Current Safety stock – Current lot size – Current Open orders and/or scheduled receipts Highlights items with part shortages along with the amount and frequency Provides recommendation on how to respond and when Do “what if” analysis 6

Resizing for future requirements Simulate the planned consumption Simulate the Kanban replenishment for that consumption Compute the sizing parameters for the consumption – Average Daily Demand – S/X ratio – Safety Stock Compute the number of cards to be added/deleted using the above and: – Current lead time/transit time – Current lot size Provide an option to automatically apply the master data changes 7
