9 Summer Jobs +: Opportunities for the Workforce System About Summer Jobs + Call to action for businesses, non-profits, and government to work together to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth (16 to 24 years of age) in the summer of 2012 Goal of reaching 250,000 employment opportunities by the start of summer No new funds associated with this initiative. No changes to the Workforce Investment Act Youth Program. Summer Jobs + Bank, a one-stop Internet search tool for youth to access postings for any participating employers - www.dol.gov/summerjobs.www.dol.gov/summerjobs

10 Summer Jobs +: Opportunities for the Workforce System About Summer Jobs + Menu of options from which businesses can choose to assist low-income youth in accessing the skills and opportunities necessary for success in the workforce Three key ways or “pathways” businesses and organizations can engage in include –Learn and Earn: paid internships and/or permanent positions that provide on-the-job training –Life Skills: soft skills, such as communication, time management and teamwork, including resume writing or interview workshops and mentorship programs –Work Skills: Provide youth insight into the world of work to prepare for employment - job shadow days and unpaid internships
