3. The verb is the engine of a sentence. It drives, energizes, and keeps the sentence going. The power a verb generates is what’s really important. No verb? No sentence!

5. The Verb Phrase Beth is floating on the inner tube. Sometimes two or more verbs work together to show action. The heron has been walking along the shoreline all morning.

6. Main verb Verb phrase Is the word that shows the action A group of verbs working together Helping verb Assists the main verb in showing action Sally will be dancing all night long! Will be dancing is the verb phrase. Dancing is the main verb Will, be are the helping verbs When identifying the verb in a sentence, you must include the entire verb phrase.
