4 Lewis Carroll - The author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Carroll grew up in Cheshire and Yorkshire, England, after graduating from Oxford with a B.A. in mathematics, he became a sub-librarian at Christ Church there. 6 Marcel Duchamp was a French-American painter, sculptor and writer whose work is associated with Cubism and Dadaism. 8 Anatole France - was a French poet, journalist, and novelist. He was a member of the Académie française, and won the Nobel Prize for Literature in recognition of his literary achievements. 9 Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm was a German philologist, jurist and mythologist. He is best known as one of the Brothers Grimm, as the editor of Grimm's Fairy Tales. 11 Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz was a German mathematician and philosopher. Leibniz served three consecutive rulers of the House of Brunswick as historian, political adviser, and most consequentially, as librarian of the ducal library. 12 Adam Mickiewicz was a Polish national poet, essayist, translator, publicist and political writer. A prime representative of the Polish Romantic period, he is one of that country's Three Bards and the greatest poet in all Polish literature. In 1852 he was given the position as a librarian in the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal in Paris.
