Public health competencies required to support commissioning Exercise: The exercise is designed to explore and analyse the public health skill set and competencies required to support commissioning post transition. Working in groups you will be given a scenario and your task is to describe what public health can offer (the “core offer”) and identify the public health competencies you think are required.

12. What is the “core offer” and what are the public health competencies required to deliver it? Scenario 1: As part of the public health team within the local authority you are tasked to commission a weight management service. Scenario 2: Your Health and Wellbeing Board is reviewing offender health services. As the public health consultant / DPH you sit on the Board and partners are expecting you to play an active part in the review and advise on what should be expected of commissioners. Scenario 3: You are approached by a Clinical Commissioning Group to support in the commissioning of cardiovascular disease services.
