5 “New Literacies” To become fully literate in today’s world, students must become proficient in the new literacies of 21st-century technologies. Because technology has increased the intensity and complexity of literate environments, the twenty-first century demands that a literate person possess a wide range of abilities and competencies, many literacies.

7 Value of production Video production serves as a means for teaching media awareness and visual communication; this learning experience helps learners understand how media messages are constructed and prepares them to interpret various genres of media content. At the same time, making videos as a way of understanding media is also a process of inquiry into young people's lived experience in the context of a media-saturated environment.
