3. Computer network A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource shared today is information over Internet. Other shared resources can include a printer or a file server etc. In computer networks, networked computing devices pass data to each other along with data connections Data is transferred in the form of packets. The connections between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet.

4. Network Fundamentals Communication means to convey a message, a picture, speech or an idea that is received and understood clearly and correctly by the person to whom it is conveyed. Goals of computer network Goals of computer network are as follow : 1.To provide sharing of resources such as information, devices or processors 2.To provide inter-process communication among user and processors. 3.It provides the network user with maximum performance at minimum cost 4.It provides centralized control for a geographically distributed system. 5.It provides compatibility of dissimilar equipment and software. 6.It provides centralized management and allocation of network resources. 7.It provides distributed processing functions.
