3 How do we classify one another? When you look at our school, what different identifiers do we use to classify one another? (ex. Clothing, activities, etc.)

5 1.Do assumptions apply to everyone in a group? 2. Do most people hold the same assumptions about a group? Why or why not? 3. Do assumptions tell us anything definite about a categorized individual? 4. How do they affect behavior towards others?

6 Terms to know: Stereotype a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Bias prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. What is an example of a stereotype? Of bias?

7 Reflect Take another look at the adjectives recorded and hold a class discussion around the following questions: Do these adjectives describe stereotypes? How can they be unfair or hurtful?

8 Reflection Essay Due Wednesday How is someone’s dialect and cultural identity related? Are people proud of their dialect? Are there some areas where people may be embarrassed or ashamed of their dialect?
