Majority of Kenyan's are Catholic Kenya's number one language is English 78% of Kenyans can read and write Number one ethnic group is Kikuyu 1 Kenyan shilling = $1.00 Some things grown in Kenya are Coffee, Tea, Corn, Wheat, Surgarcane and Fruit

3 THE FLAG Kenya's flag was adopted on December 12th 1963 The colours symbolize black majority, blood and natural wealth. The defence of Freedom is symbolised by Masai shield and two spears

4 Money The Currency of Kenya Is the Kenyan shilling At the Current exchange rate £1= 133.70 Kenyan shilling (KES)

5 Religion A large proportion of the Kenyan population are Christians found mainly outside the coastal and eastern provinces. Muslims make up some 30% of the population found in the coastal areas and in the eastern side of the country - the rest is a combination of other minority religions such as Hindus, Bhuduist and those who follow their ancestral tribal beliefs

6 People Currently there are more than 40 different ethnic groups in Kenya. The main groups of tribes are the Bantu who migrated from western Africa, the Nilotic people who originated from Sudan and the Hamitic group, who were mainly pastoral tribes from Ethiopia and Somalia. The main tribes are Kikuyu (21%), Meru (5%), Kalenjin, Luyha, Luo (14%), Kisii, Kamba, Swahili, Masai, Turkana The other large ethnic groups include the Luo, Luhya, Kamba and Kalenjin- There are also some groups of people who form a very small population. This includes the tribe of El Molo.

7 Food The traditional method of eating ugali as a main course (and the most common in the hinterland) is to roll a lump into a ball with the right hand and then dip it into a sauce or stew of vegetables and/or meat. Making a depression with the thumb allows the ugali to be used to scoop, and to wrap around pieces of meat to pick them up in the same way that flat bread is used in other cultures. Firm ugali can also be eaten with a knife and fork.vegetablesmeat

8 Many animals are indigenous to Kenya, Wildlife such as Elephants, Giraffes and Lions which are commonly seen on safari’s There are Many Wildlife parks whose aim is to work with others to conserve, protect and sustainably manage wildlife resources The premise is that “if people benefit from wildlife and other natural resources, then they will take care of these resources using them sustainably”
