BellRinger 01/26/2016 Newton’s 2 nd Law: Force = mass x acceleration (F=ma) Create an F=ma triangle and solve these: 1.What force is needed to accelerate a box with a mass of 100kg to an acceleration rate of 5m/s 2 ? 2.A force of 10N is applied to a ball with a mass of 2kg. What is the acceleration rate? 3.A force of 100N is being applied to a bike that is accelerating at a rate of 5m/s 2. What is the mass of the bike?

Newton’s 2 nd Law is: Force = mass x acceleration (F=ma) Create an F=ma triangle and solve these: 1.What force is needed to accelerate a box with a mass of 100kg to an acceleration rate of 5m/s 2 ? F = 100kg * 5m/s 2 F = 500 N 2. A force of 10N is applied to a ball with a mass of 2kg. What is the acceleration rate? a = 10 N ÷ 2kg a = 5 m/s 2 3.A force of 100N is being applied to a bike that is accelerating at a rate of 5m/s 2. What is the mass of the bike? m = 100 N ÷ 5m/s 2 m = 20 kg

Plate Tectonic Theory 8.9A The student is expected to describe the historical development of evidence that supports plate tectonic theory.

Alfred Wegener – Father of Continental Drift https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1-cES1Ekto

Plate Tectonics Explore 1.Study the landmass handout. Visually identify each landmass on your paper. 2.There are 5 folders containing maps of different fossil or rock evidence. 3.Transfer the evidence from each folder to the correct landmass on your map. 4.Cut out the landmasses and arrange them according to fossil and rock evidence. 5.Glue them onto a piece of paper. 6.This will be checked and graded tomorrow, then glued into your journal!

Mountains – Some mountain ranges on different continents seem to match. Ex: ranges in Canada match Norway and Sweden Ex: Appalachian Mtn. match UK mtn

WEGENER’S EVIDENCE Climatic evidence such as glaciers in areas that are now close to the Equator

Continental Drift – Wegener’s Evidence 1.Continents look like puzzle pieced 2.Fossil Evidence (plant and animal) 3.Matching mountain ranges 4.Climatic evidence (Antarctic ice) BUT HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN HOW OR WHY THE MOVEMENT OCCURRED SO HIS THEORY WAS REJECTED!

Puzzle Arrange this already made puzzle according to the fossil and rock evidence.
