16 SCQF AIMS To assist people of all ages and circumstances to access appropriate education and training over their lifetime to fulfil their personal, social and economic potential To enable employers, learners and the public in general to understand the full range of Scottish qualifications, how they relate to each other and how different types of qualifications can contribute to improving the skills of the workforce

17 SCQF STATUS The SCQF has no statutory basis. It is focused on communication and facilitation. It is not regulatory. It is used by bodies such as the Scottish Funding Council to help manage the qualifications system.

18 SCQF QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications must be: 1. Outcomes based 2. Subject to externally quality-assured assessment 3. Credit-rated by a body approved by the SCQF Partnership

19 SCQF CREDIT-RATING Since the early stages Universities Further Education colleges Scottish Qualifications Authority Since January 2009 new bodies which meet criteria 4 organisations approved

20 SCQF GOVERNANCE Till 2006: Development Partners SQA, colleges & Higher Education bodies + Joint Advisory Committee Owners, providers, QA agencies and funders of qualifications
