IEEE/NSF Joint Server Standard Activities In late 2014, DoE expressed an interest in having the two parties currently developing environmental standards for servers (NSF and IEEE) explore the possibility of a joint standard IEEE and NSF staff representatives met in November and December in mediated sessions The group developed a draft process document currently under review by Working Group/Task Group leadership Significant issues have been raised, primarily by the NSF Task Group leadership, and written responses are pending A joint conference call is expected to be scheduled shortly, with face- to-face meetings to follow in March 7

P1680.6 Complex Set Top Boxes The PAR has been submitted 1.1 Project Number: P1680.6 1.2 Type of Document: Standard 1.3 Life Cycle: Full Use 2.1 Title: Standard for Environmental Assessment of Complex Set Top Boxes Includes devices with more than simple channel selection 8CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09

P1857 Purpose and Usage  P1857 family can be used for video and audio compression in any possible application systems where bandwidth and/or storage cost are sensitive, like internet video, broadcasting TV, surveillance video, etc..  Currently the first case of P1857 video is adopted by China Central Television for their satellite TV transmission, from the beginning of 2014.  Other applications like internet video and surveillance video are also scheduled. 9CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09

P1857 Published Standards 1857-2013, Standard for Advanced Audio and Video Coding-video Standard was approved on March 06, 2013, and published on June 04, 2013. 1857a-2014, Amendment 1 of IEEE Std. 1857-2013 Standard was approved on March 27, 2014, and published on April 04, 2014. 1857.2-2013, Standard for Advanced Audio Coding Standard was approved on Aug. 23, 2013, and published on Nov.12, 2013. 1857.3-2013, Standard for System of Advanced Audio and Video Coding Standard was approved on Dec. 11, 2013, and published on Jan. 20, 2014. 10CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09

P1857 Working Groups P1857.4, Standard for 2nd Generation IEEE 1857 Video Coding The PAR was approved on Dec 11, 2013. PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2017 The draft has been completed and is currently double checked by the editors, and is expected to call for comments and vote in WG in March, 2015. P1857.5, Standard for Advanced Mobile speech and Audio The PAR was approved on Dec 11, 2013 The WG vote on the draft was launched on 13-Jan-2015 and will end on 13- Feb-2015. If everything goes well, the draft will be submitted for sponsor review and then MEC in March 2015. P1857.6, Standard for Digital Media Content Description The PAR approval date: 11-Dec-2013 PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2017 P1857.7, Standard for Adaptive Streaming The PAR approval date: 10-Dec-2014 PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2018 11CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09

12CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09 P1857.6, Standard for Digital Media Content Description The PAR approval date: 11-Dec-2013 PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2017 Features: The standard consists of three parts: 1) label, classification and core metadata, 2) visual object description, and 3) audio object description. Currently, we are focusing on visual object description. We have built a description framework which contains five types of descriptors: 1)color features, 2) texture features, 3)local features, 4)shape features, 5)motion features as well as 6)the compact representation of the features. In addition, we have also defined the basic structure including the spatial 2-D coordinates and region locator as the supporting tools and containers of the descriptors. In each description type, it contains several descriptors: Color features : color histogram, dominant color, color moment Texture features: grey level co-occurrence matrix, Gabor texture feature, Homogeneous texture, Histogram of oriented gradient Local features: SIFT, local binary pattern Shape features: moment, edge center distance, shape context Motion features: trajectory, histogram of optical flow Future works and main issues are: We will further define the binary representation syntax and the descriptor component semantics for each specific descriptor. We have finished around 25% of the total visual descriptors. The standard is estimated to be fully completed before the end of 2016. More works have to be done to attract more technological contribution concerning audio feature extraction, visual feature extraction, feature compact representation and multimedia system.

13CPS Presentation to IEEE President 12 May 09 P1857.7, Standard for Adaptive Streaming The PAR approval date: 10-Dec-2014 PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2018 The features of the standard are: Multistream to support advertisement video insertion; Ownership signaling of content component to support client to handle unauthorized copies; Carriage and signaling of protection information for content confidentiality, authenticity and integrity. The schedule for P1857.7 is roughly given below: The draft is 50% completed. (Jan, 2015). Determine the architecture of the standard; (March 2015) Working Draft for other protocol based part of the standard; (June 2015) Complete CD version of the draft; (September 2015) Fully complete the draft. (December 2015) The main issues are about to settle architecture: To determine the protocols that should be supported besides HTTP; To determine the relationship between the HTTP part and other possible protocol based parts.
