3 INTRODUCTION 3 A Handheld projector (also known as a pocket projector or mobile projector or pico projector) is an emerging technology that applies the use of a image projector in a handheld device It is a response to the emergence of compact portable devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and digital cameras. Handheld projectors involve miniaturized hardware and software that can project digital images onto any nearby viewing surface, such as a wall.

4 GSM 4 Global System for Mobile Communications: A digital cellular phone technology based on TDMA, GSM phones use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card that contains user account information.

5 WHAT IS MOBILE PROJECTOR As mobile allows us to capture high resolution picture and video, there arises the need for a big screen to show them. With miniaturization in projection technologies and optics, we can now carry in pocket a screen as big as 127cm(60inches). The built in projectors of cell phone allows us to project large image directly from phone. 5

6 PROCESS OF PROJECT THE IMAGE The system comprises five main parts:- The battery The electronics The laser light sources The combiner optic The scanning mirrors 6

7 First, the electronics system turns the image into an electronic signal. Next the electronic signals drive laser light sources with different colors and intensities down different paths. In the combiner optic the different light paths are combined into one path demonstrating a palette of colors. Finally, the mirrors copy the image pixel-by-pixel and can then project the image. 9 9 MOBILE PROJECTION TECHNIQUE Projector requires a combination of several different technologies :- MEMS:-Microvision's projector uses a single micro electromechanical platform with colored laser diodes for displaying the image. TI’S DLP:-This technology is known for giving high contrast, fast switching and optical efficiency. DLP technology along with LEDs to illuminate the projection screen. LCoS:-Liquid- crystal- on- silicon technology from light blue optics uses an innovative approach to projection with its miniature light engines. 9

10 SOME PROJECTOR PHONE AVAILABLE TODAY 10 A new Mobile handset company from Chennai has launched India's first projector mobile phone ST-200.More projector phone are:- Samsung show W7900 in Korea and i7410 in Europe Samsung i8520 Halo (uses a DLP projector running on Android OS) Samsung W9600(uses TI’s new WVGA DLP chip) LG eXpo(with a Pico projector ‘add-on’)

11 APPLICATION 11 Handheld projector can be used for different applications than small conventional projectors:- Picture browsing:- Projector phones allow photographs to be shared with a larger audience. people preferred to view and share photos with projector phones compared to using conventional mobile phones. Gaming:- Handheld projectors, in particular projector phones, could offer new possibilities for mobile gaming as demonstrated by the adaptation of the PlayStation game LittleBigPlanet.

12 Hand gesture recognition:- Mobile projectors integrated in headsets could be used as interaction devices e.g. using additional hand and finger tracking. The MIT Media Lab is developing a wearable gesture interface device named Sixth Sense. Pointer-based computer control:- Combining a mobile projector with a webcam, a laser pointer, and image processing software enables full control of any computing system via the laser pointer. Pointer on/off actions, motion patterns and more can all be mapped to events.which generate standard mouse or keyboard events, or user- programmable actions.

13 FEATURES OF MOBILE PROJECTOR The images projected can range anywhere from 12 inches (30 cm) to 100 inches (2.5 m) in size depending upon the projection distance. The retail version of the device is expected to offer approximately 2.5 hours of continuous battery life, sufficient to watch a full-length movie without a need for recharging. Microvision reports that SHOW can project a DVD quality image with up to WVGA (848 X 480 pixels) resolution.

14 MOBILE PROJECTOR FUTURE 14 TI, who makes the DLP light chip powering many projectors is very optimistic about projector phones. In fact we can say that in a few years they will be as popular as 'camera phones' are today. Now today many companies are working on new projector phones: Nokia, Samsung, LG, NTT DoCoMo and even Apple

15 CONCLUSION 15 The predicted integration of Pico projectors in mobile phones has the clear potential to lead to an improvement of existing applications in which the user has to interact with a great amount of information and will also lead to new interaction techniques. Map based applications can benefit from the higher resolution and size when using a projection when compared to a conventional mobile phone screen. The presented research provides clear evidence of several distinct advantages, such as improved task completion time, reduced number of errors and higher user satisfaction
