Spectrum Crisis Response for First Responders APRIL RAZO- CEO OF SPECTRUM SARAH SCHOL- SENIOR DIRECTOR OF NORTHERN AZ OPERATIONS, CRN

Why are we here?  Spectrum Behavioral Health is a healthcare provider of physical and behavioral health services in the Verde Valley, and is passionate about not only supporting community members in crisis, but also first responders (Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement), who often encounter crises first  The Crisis Response Network (CRN) has been working with first responders in Maricopa County for a number of years, and has established a strong collaborative relationship in Maricopa County. As of 8/1/2015, CRN is the crisis line provider for all of Northern Arizona  Spectrum and CRN have paired up to create an innovative pilot program to not only support community members in crisis, but to support our first responders who work every day with people suffering mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, etc.

Goals:  Support and assist first responders in the field who encounter someone experiencing a crisis event  Support community members and clients who are experiencing a crisis  Mental health concerns or challenges  Suicidal thoughts/actions/plans  Substance abuse issues or history  Domestic violence  Grief/ bereavement/ trauma  Defer people from unnecessary jail time and hospital admissions, and connect them to the most appropriate level of care

What does this look like?  If fire and EMS responders encounters someone in the community who could benefit from working with a crisis team:  One of the crew would call Crisis Response Network (CRN) at 877-756-4090  Identify yourself as fire/EMS, and ask to speak to a supervisor  Provide address, client demographic information, situation, call back number  Caller will be provided with an approximate ETA of the team  CRN will dispatch a Spectrum team, who will arrive to assist as quickly as possible  Upon arriving, the Spectrum team will touch base with the crew for information/introductions, and will take over the call to provide service to the client, allowing fire to leave the scene

What to keep in mind:  This is a pilot program, meaning that we intend to start small, and build according to community and Fire/EMS needs along the way  The intention is to create a system that is sustainable and fundable, to do so, we need:  Fire crews to actually call for crisis teams when appropriate  Feedback (positive AND negative) on what is working, and what part of this program can be improved  We anticipate some growing pains, but we are committed to making this a program that is helpful to first responders
