Forests containing trees that change color seasonally and fall off. Average annual temperature of about 50° and an average rainfall of 30 inches a year.
2
Where we live! 4 Seasons- Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Deciduous forests contain trees that have leaves that change colors seasonally and fall off Moderate precipitation middle latitudes Plants include : Maples, Oaks, Hickory, Birch, Cypress Broad leaves allow more sunlight to be captured for photosynthesis

Deer, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, insects, snakes, birds, frogs, bears Adaptations: -Birds migrate during the colder seasons to warmer climates. -Animals shed fur during the warmer seasons. -Hibernation- period of dormancy and little activity to slow metabolism when food is more scarce.

This forest also has the most fertile soil of all the forests and is defined by the amount of rain it gets per year. Hot, humid, heavy rainfall, An average of 50 to 260 inches of rain falls yearly. Temperatures between 93° and 68°.

Wettest and Hottest Biome on Earth! Over 100 inches of rainfall a year It is near the equator… Very humid! More Biodiversity than any other land biome › 70% of the species are trees Soil is very nutrient-poor because of leeching of soil. Big leaf plants to absorb sun on forest floor because of the canopy above, orchids (flowers that grown on trees) – commensalism.

These plants help define the layers of the rainforests. The top layer is the Emergent Layer, then the canopy. The canopy layer receives the most light of all the layers. Next is the understory layer. After that is the shrub layer, the light in this layer is very limited so the plants that grow are adapted to survive on low light. The next layer is the forest floor, less than 1% of light reaches this layer. Last is the subterranean layer, which means that this layer is under the ground.

Plants › Grow tall to get sunlight › Vines grow up trees to reach sunlight › Not many branches › Deep Roots › Thinner Bark or no bark. Animals › Stay in the shaded understory when it gets too hot. › No fir › Birds beaks adapted for eating berries and fruit › Arms and hands for climbing › Camouflage
