5 Food Safety and Inspection Service: Begins after March 1, 2016 at domestic slaughter establishments Begins 45 days after March 1, 2016, at import establishments = April 15, 2016 Timeline to start of sample collection 5

6 Food Safety and Inspection Service: What we are collecting FSIS personnel will be collecting 2 pounds of catfish fillets (or similar product) for analysis at the Field Service Labs At Domestic Slaughter establishments: – 200 samples/year At Import Houses – 100 samples/year Sampling scheme will be updated after the first 18 months of inspection: FY 2017 Sampling scheme may change during the first 18 months based on sampling results and findings by FSIS Inspectors

11 Food Safety and Inspection Service: Time to results reporting Chemical Residues and Species Identification – About 7 days to report negative findings – About 3 additional days to conduct more tests if a sample screens positive Microbiology – Negative Salmonella results may be reported as soon as 2 days after sample receipt – Confirmed Salmonella results typically take up to 7 days to report – All Salmonella isolates will be further characterized by serotype, PFGE, whole genome sequencing, and antimicrobial resistance profiling

12 Food Safety and Inspection Service: Results Reporting When analyses are completed results will be reported electronically to – FSIS Inspection staff – Establishment staff indicated in the PHIS profile What is reported? – Sample Description Collection date Type of product collected etc – Analysis Performed – Positive and negative results – When appropriate Quantitation Further characterization
