6 Course Learning Objectives 1.Describe the basic components of the health policy process and to analyze each component using a current health policy topic. 2.Describe the components of the Bardach 8-fold path policy analysis framework and to apply the framework to a current health policy problem. 3.Identify the different legal, economic, regulatory, and, marketing, and financing policy approaches available to influence and improve public health. 4.Identify the major U.S. health behavior policies related to diet, physical activity, tobacco, alcohol, and other major health behaviors. 5.Describe the impact of health policy on health behavior using examples from policies targeting diet, physical activity, tobacco, and alcohol.

7 Course Learning Objectives (cont.) 6.Evaluate the selection criteria used when considering health behavior policies such as legality, liberty, efficiency, security, equity, and ethical issues. 7.Apply relevant health policy evaluation techniques to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of health behavior policies. 8.Use excel spreadsheet to calculate cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit problems. 9.Identify sources of information and data regarding health policy and related analysis. 10.Demonstrate high standards of personal and organizational integrity, compassion, honesty and respect for all people. 11.Demonstrate effective written and oral skills for communicating with different audiences about public health policy including written policy briefs, written policy analyses, and oral presentations.
