3. Cyprus Flag ► The Cypriot flag consists of a white base with a yellow/golden map of the island in the middle of it. Two green olive branches appear on the flag, below the map Description:

4. Cypriot Flag Meaning: ► The Cypriot flag's colors were intentionally chosen to help promote peace between the two antagonistic communities living there (the Greek and Turks). The green olive branches also symbolize peace. The colors of the Greek (blue) and Turkish (red) flags were deliberately avoided.

5. Cypriot Flag History: ► The Cypriot flag was adopted on August 16, 1960, after gaining independence from Britain. ► The Cypriot flag and the design of it was selected by the President of the Republic, Makarios, in 1960, after a public competition

6. Interesting Cypriot Flag Facts: ► The map of the island of Cyprus appears in golden/yellow on the flag for the sake of easier reproduction. Originally the map was going to be copper, a metal that got its name from the island's name - Cyprus. The Greek word for copper literally means "Cyprus metal", and there are large amounts of copper on the island of Cyprus. ► Citizens of Cyprus have the right to fly the Cypriot, Greek or Turkish flag without any restriction. ► Cyprus is the only country in the world to display its land area on its flag

7. ‘‘National anthem’’ ‘‘Hymn to Freedom’’ Hymn to freedom (Imnos is tin Eleftherian or Hymnos eis tin elephtherian) is a big poet of which the first two stanzas of one hundred fifty eight became the Cyprus national anthem. The poem Hymn to the Freedom was written from Dionysios Solomos in May 1823 in Zakynthos and one year it was later printed in Mesologgi.

8. ► He was born in 1798 in Zakynthos. In 1808 he went to Italy, where he studied law, Latin and Italian literature in Venice, Cremona and Pavia. He was friend of the poet Ugo of Foscolo (who was also born in Zakynthos). ► Solomos' first literary language was Italian. After 10 years he returned to Zakynthos with a solid background in literature. Solomos became famous as a poet during this time, while still a young man. His early poetry (sonnets and other short forms) was in Italian. ► The result was the first extensive body of literature written in the demotic language, the influence of which on subsequent writers was significant.He wrote a lot of poems and finally in 1823 he wrote the Hymn to freedom and he characterized as the national poet of Cyprus. 9. ► In two first turns of Anthem, what constitute our National Anthem, Solomos make a greeting to the Freedom. It identifies the Freedom and in particular hymn with reasons that she never did not hear. Remarkable it is that to her it lends flesh and bones, personalize and to her it addresses the reason in second singular person. ► The poem ‘‘Hymn to freedom’’ combines elements from romanticism but also classicism. The turns that are used are four rhyme while in the verses is observed alternation octosyllable and eptasyllable. The poem "Anthem to the Freedom" is constituted from these 158 four rhyme stanza· from 24 first turns was established as national anthem in 1865. A general view of the anthem
