4 Importance of Physical Activity Children benefit in many ways from regular physical activity (various references; pg. 364 text) Promotes changes in brain structure and function. Improves aerobic fitness - muscle : endurance, power, strength; and feelings of wellness Contributes to social adjustment and positive mental health. Contributes to memory retention. Please share ideas for including physical activity in curriculum planning…

8 The Last of the Domains: The Social Domain This domain encompasses four essential facets of children’s development and education: 1.Social Skills: children learning to interact with others (acquiring social skills) 2.Socialization: children learning the values, beliefs, customs, and rules of society (ability to understand the values and rules of society) 3.Social responsibility: children developing respect for individual differences and functioning as contributing members of the scope of their community (respect for differences and ability to contribute to society) 4.Social studies: children exploring people’s interactions in, and with social/ physical environment (studying how others interact with society and the physical environment).

9 Pro-social Behaviors Acts of kindness such as helping, sharing, sympathizing, rescuing, defending, cooperating, and comforting benefit all persons, the giver and the receivers. These behaviors impact the ability to and process of learning across all developmental areas.

10 In Diversity How one approaches diversity relates to attitude, knowledge, and experience (and recognition of skills and talents in others). Following is a list of considerations: Religion, race, language, ethnicity, interests, age, abilities, values, music, gender role, lifestyle, skin color, culture, child-rearing practices, economic class, social class, the arts, sports, etc. My favorite: what are your special skills and talents, or what area of diversity is most important to you personally?
