11 I am going to read two diary entries out and I want you to think about what the differences are between them. Task

12 Dear Diary, What an amazing day! Out of the blue my parents bought me a brand new iPad. We were out shopping when they suddenly said they had a surprise for me. I thought it was going to be a trip to MacDonald's but imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a trip to the Apple shop. It took a while to charge up but when it did, I was away! The apps on it are absolutely amazing especially the writing app. That's what I'm writing this on! Dad got it hooked up to the internet and it was brilliant to access all my favourite web sites. I've even got my own email address! I'm really looking forward to having a play around on the games section tomorrow which is supposed to be wicked. My friends are going to be really jealous when they hear tomorrow. Thanks mum, thanks dad - you're the best. Diary contrasting viewpoint

13 Dear Diary, What a horrible day - the worst day I've had since the war! Maggie Jones, at the home, persuaded me to buy one of them computer things called an ipad. At first I thought she was talking about an ipatch for my weeping eye - we did laugh! Anyway, I grabbed my stick and cap and got the number 3 to town. It was nice to be out and about in the fresh air. It took me a while to find the shop but a nice young man showed me the way. I felt really nervous because I was carrying £430. I could buy a house for that in my day! Anyway, the pretty girl in the shop, (who should really wear more clothes) said it was really easy to set up, so I passed her the bag of £5 notes and left. I must admit, I was excited for the first time in years, ever since I won at the bingo. When I got back to the home, I got one of the helpers to get it out of the box. (Why do they use so much packaging?) We plugged it in but it wouldn't work! It was a complete waste of money. The man said I could surf on it, but I couldn't even get one foot on it. Anyway, I'm going to see what happens tomorrow, although I don't think the crack is going to help. I'm feeling a bit disappointed to tell you the truth. Jenny, (god rest her soul) would be furious if she could see I'd wasted all our savings. Anyway, the horlicks and hot water bottle have arrived. I'll write again tomorrow. George Holloway-Smithe Diary contrasting viewpoint
